This afternoon we have three flat meetings to look forward to at Musselburgh, Brighton and Wolverhampton - the prize money for those three cards combined comes to £96,000, while over in Ireland their mixed card at Listowel offers £107,000!  I must be missing something, a bit like the prize money in this country!  Our only runner of the day yesterday at Bath, Beyond proved disappointing so it is back to the drawing board with him.  With no jumps fixtures taking place today, the stable does not have any runners.

Voleure de Coeurs won the Irish St Leger by an impressive six lengths - she won a Wexford maiden last year when rated only 74.  She is now rated 109 - that is some improvement and there is no reason why she cannot continue to progress.  Meanwhile Richard Hughes and Richard Hannon won the Group One two year old's race with Toormore - this colt bolted up and looks to be another one to keep on the right side of.

I see that it is Harry Alford's 90th birthday today.  He is dad of Raymond Alford who has a few pointers near the yard and rode a few winners between the flags for MCP back in the old days.  Indeed, those were the days of black and white television!  Happy birthday Harry...be careful there could be a fire risk with 90 candles on a cake!

I thought that the Southampton versus West Ham match was a very boring 0-0 draw.  Both teams should stay up as there are some very poor teams in the Premiership this year, although it was hardly inspiring stuff.  Tonight let's hope that the Swansea versus Liverpool match is a bit more interesting - it is live on Sky at 8pm.

Andy Murray beat Croatia 3-1in the Davis Cup Tennis - I say Murray rather than Great Britain as he won both of his singles matches and the doubles that he contested.  How can Murray be so far in front of the remainder of his team mates?  Our coaching system must be terrible...they pour millions into the game and cannot get one decent player!  They certainly can't take any credit for Murray.

Word of advice to Amir Khan - stay away from Floyd Mayweather or you may end up reading the weather!
