This afternoon there are four flat meetings at Ayr, Yarmouth, Pontefract and Kempton while over in Ireland there is another mixed card from Listowel.  There was a bit of a shock result in yesterday's feature Kerry National as White Star Line bolted up at odds of 16/1...he should have been that price just to get a run considering he was the third reserve for the race in the morning - it must have been a 'titanic' result for the bookies!  I see that A P McCoy has just one ride at Listowel this afternoon - let's see if the theory about jockeys with one ride at a meeting works!  A P is going to another country for his one ride so it should be a certainty?!

I have a couple more pictures to share with you from the gallops from last week.  Today we have exciting second season hurdler in Broadway Buffalo as well as Cesarewitch entry Mamlook who was working in company with former winning ex-pointer Vazaro Delafayette.  Mamlook was left in next month's prestigious Newmarket handicap yesterday at the latest forfeit stage, although there were a handful of notable absentees from the original entries.

There is a Newmarket Open Day this Sunday but one trainer who will not be opening his doors to the public is reigning champion flat trainer John Gosden.  Gosden says that some of the yards around Newmarket have the cough and he doesn't want it spreading to his stable.  Much as it is a shame for those people who would like to see how a top yard operates, I can quite understand his reasoning - you don't want people going from yard to yard touching all the horses, it spreads so quickly.

I see that jockey Tom Queally has a beauty of a black eye.  He was caught by a horse at John Butler's Newmarket yard - the horse lashed out and caught him by his left eye.  It looks extremely close to the eyeball, so while he may not look it, I would imagine he has been a very lucky boy that there was not more serious damage caused.  I always managed to keep away from the back end of horses, that is how I managed to keep my good looks...no comments please!

Great Britain have drawn the USA in teh first round of the Davis Cup tennis next year.  Murray will win both of his singles matches but the American doubles pairing of Bob and Mike Bryan are the world's top team in that discipline so we will lose 3-2.  I wonder if they are betting on the match result?  It all seems too easy!

Somehow Chelsea managed to lose 2-1 at home to Basel.  Fancy losing at home to Fawlty Towers - they should win the away fixture, mind you they should have won the home fixture!  Mourinho doesn't have the mixture of players right just yet.

I see that former heavyweight boxing champion Ken Norton has died in Las Vegas.  I saw a lot of his figths in my younger days, it was in an era when there were some great heavyweights about.
