This afternoon there are four meetings taking place, three on the level at Goodwood, Redcar and Kempton as well as a jumps fixture from Perth.  Although the stable has no runners today, both Tom Scudamore and Conor O'Farrell have rides at the Scottish track - let's hope they ride a winner or two, otherwise it is going to be a very expensive meeting for them and a very long journey home.  The Tracey Shuffle was a non-runner at Newton Abbot yesterday afternoon leaving just Prime Location to represent the yard and he ran okay, racing up with he pace for a long way before finishing fifth under Anthony Fox.  It would have been good experience for the 10lbs conditional jockey.

MCP__SCU001This week the Racing Post have a feature everyday on great racing partnerships and today there is a fascinating piece about MCP and Peter Scudamore (pictured right).  They had so many memorable successes, but the one that stands out to me was definitely Carvill's Hill's Welsh Grand National in 1991.  The way he demolished a high class field under a welter burden was one of the most impressive things I have ever seen on a racecourse.  I think he was probably the best horse that Martin ever had and the Irish absolutely adored him...the only trouble was, when we raced him back in Ireland we had terrible problems getting him on a plane.  The trouble was, he was so big that his head touched the roof!

There were some good results for London football clubs in the Capital One Cup as Spurs beat Aston Villa 4-0, Fulham beat Everton 2-1, Chelsea beat Swindon 2-0 and West Ham beat Cardiff 3-2.

There is a cracking match to look forward to tonight as Manchester United take on Liverpool in the same competition.  United looked poor against Manchester City at the weekend, but Liverpool also turned in a stinker as they were beaten at home by Southampton.  Liverpool will have Luis Suarez available to them tonight after his ten match ban so it should certainly make for interesting viewing.  I wonder how many of the team's first eleven will play?  It is on Sky Sports 2 at 7.45pm.

While we are on the subject of Manchester United, I find it very difficult to believe that Manchester United offered £120million for Gareth Bale and that it was rejected.  Surely the Welshman would have jumped at the opportunity to play for United?  Furthermore, I find it very difficult to believe that the Spurs chairman would have turned the money away!

I'm sure that Terry Neill will be watching the Liverpool match tonight.  Below you can see the interview that he conducted with broadcaster Mike Vince on a recent visit to Pond House.
