David had winner at Fontwell yesterday afternoon courtesy of Tom Scu and King's Palace winning the last race of the day, a maiden hurdle. He looks a useful prospect having already shown some nice form in bumpers and he showed no ill effect from his fall on his hurdles debut back in January. Leading all the way he jumped well and despite running a bit green in the closing stages he won nicely enough in the end in what looked not too bad a novice hurdle. He could run next at Cheltenham at the October meeting, he looks a stayer in the making and David says he could be a Welsh National type in time. Street Entertainer finished fourth at the Sussex track but was beaten a fair way, he surely has to be better than this. Meanwhile up at Hexham Decoy also ran well to finish second. He was only beaten a couple of lengths and he should be up to winning off his mark soon unless the handicapper does something silly!
Today we have five meetings, four on the flat at Ascot, Newmarket, Redcar and Wolverhampton and a jumps card at Fontwell. David does not have runners today but does have three tomorrow, My Brother Sylvest at Huntingdon and Solwery and Sir Frank at Uttoxeter. There is nearly a million pounds in prize money on offer at Newmarket today for there seven races. This is compared to £28,000 up for grabs at Wolverhampton for eights races!
I see that it is Banrey Curley's 74th birthday today. I once went to Barney's house in Newmarket. I sat at the table with him and Lester Piggott and I really enjoyed our chat. Imagine all the stories they can tell!
It is a course Arc weekend at Longchamp and there is lots of prize money on offer there for their prestigious races. This has attracted quite a few of our top trainers and jockey's including Neil Callan, Liam Jones, James Doyle, Daniel Tudhope and PJ McDonald. I would not have thought that Ann Duffield would have had many runners at Longchamp but she is making the journey over to the Paris track as well.
In the football news, how can Jack Wilshire be caught on camera smoking. It just shows you how much common sense he has. Arsene Wenger is not a happy manager, mind you I guess he never seems very happy to me!
My three short football bets. Liverpool 1/4, Man Utd 7/10, Tottenham 4/9. If golf is a rich mans game, why are there so many poor players?! Have a nice day.
