Four Flat Meetings Today

Today we have four flat meetings to look forward to at Leicester, Catterick, Brighton and Wolverhampton.  The seaside track at Brighton are offering just £28,000 in prize money across their eight race card - in some of their races, if you finish fourth you get a whopping £144.30!  At some tracks that wouldn't even be enough to cover the cost of the champagne.  These tracks that consistently offer poor prize money must be laughing all the way to the bank, especially as they keep getting so many runners.

I see that some of the jockeys have started complaining about the polytrack surface at Wolverhampton racecourse.  Former champion jockey Seb Sanders says that 'the horses aren't acting on it and things are getting no better'.  The clerk of the course Fergus Cameron said, 'it remains a work in progress and rain would help the surface'.  If it is a work in progress, should the horses really be running on it?  Surely we have had plenty of rain recently?

While we are on the subject of flat racing, I have come to the conclusion that jockey George Baker is not great with numbers.  He was fined £80 for going into the wrong stall...it is the second time he has now done it!

Manchester United's new star player Adnan Januzajs could play for Belgium or Albania or Kosovo national sides, but if he waits until February 2018, he could play for England!  United are trying to tie the eighteen year old to a new contract, but it would appear that Barcelona are also interested in signing him.  Message to David Moyes - sign him quickly or lose him!

Apparently there was a football match at Buckingham Palace yesterday.  Prince William told the players not to break any windows!  Former England star striker turned racehorse trainers' landlord Michael Owen was on hand for a training session with Wills.
