After yesterday's washout it is good to have some racing action back on these shores. There are four meetings taking place this afternoon - three on the flat at Catterick (who have passed a 7.30am inspection), Yarmouth and Wolverhampton as well as a National Hunt fixture at Ffos Las. The ground is being given as heavy at the tracks and it will certainly be testing, especially for the flat jockeys! With heavy going often exagerating winning margins, I don't suppose there will be too many photo finishes today. The two year old maiden over a mile at Yarmouth will certainly be a gruelling experience...with only one of the twelve strong field having run before, they will certainly know that they have been in a race.
I see that David has made some plans about where he is going to run a couple of his stable stars. Grands Crus goes to Kempton next Monday for a 2m5f handicap hurdle, while Dynaste will probably go to Wetherby for the West Yorkshire Hurdle on Saturday. I'm really looking forward to seeing these two run again as they should be competing in all of the big races this season.
While it was a blank day for racing over here, I had a couple of little bets for interest's sake in Ireland yesterday. I was particularly impressed by the performance of Don Cossack who won a beginners' chase at Galway by twenty lengths. Jockey Andrew Lynch said he was only ever in second gear and he looks a decent prospect for Gordon Elliott. I also had a little bet on Rule The World who finished second to The New One at Cheltenham - that looked to be decent form and he won accordingly.
Now, let's get onto the serious business of this week's staff interview. All the others have been a prelude to this one, someone who really knows what they are talking about...me! David caught up with me recently at his mum's birthday party, which might explain the slightly more informal manner of questioning! I understand that I have selected the same horse as Martin - you know what they say about great minds! Or is it fools seldom differ?! Anyway, hopefully it is the former and our selection proves a real star for the yard over the months ahead...

Isn't it about time that we used TV technology to help referee these football matches? Watford should have won at Brighton yesterday but they had a goal disallowed despite the fact that the instant replay showed the ball had clearly crossed the goal line.

I see that Rory McIlroy beat Tiger Woods in an exhibition golf event in China. Both players earned £1million for their 'efforts'...I am definitely in the wrong line of work. Tiger had forgotten that he was wearing a microphone and the television commentators had to apologise for the American's bad language!
