The stable continues in good form and our only runner of the day yesterday, Tullyesker Hill duly obliged when landing the bumper in good style by fifteen lengths at Plumpton under Tom Scudamore.  He looks like another useful recruit for the stable and he looks capable of winning again under a penalty although he will probably need a longer trip in time.  Today we have four meetings to look forward to - two over the sticks at Fakenham and Lingfield as well as all-weather flat fixtures at Southwell and Wolverhampton.  The stable has one runner, Lola Galli in the mares' bumper at Lingfield - she has been placed on good ground, so while the turf track might be testing the all-weather should suit her fine.

I see that Fakenham are moaning about the size of their fields for today's meeting.  Even the seller is worth more than £2,000 which is a lot more than quite a few races at Southwell and Wolverhampton - the track is a long way from anywhere...do you think that could be the reason for the small fields?!

There is a great picture of owner J P McManus arriving at Plumpton by train yesterday in the Racing Post - he was there to see his two runners win the first two races - you would have thought that he could afford a car or at least blag a lift!  Times cannot be that hard...come to think of it, it was probably JP's own private train!

There should be an exciting football match tonight at Wembley between England and Germany - it is live on ITV at 8pm.  These matches are always competitive as neither team wants to lose to their opponent.  I do feel a bit sorry for Mrs Barnes though as it messes her soap evening right up!  There are three of us in the household - myself, my wife Jane and my son Lester so we always have a democratic vote about what to watch...I'm very reasonable like that!  England are available to back at 21/10 and could be worth an interest - if we are ever going to win a big tournament we need to be beating the Germans at home.

Following yet another procession from four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel in the US Grand Prix at the weekend to make it a record eighth successive victory, I think I have found a way to make the sport more competitive.  The drivers should pick the car they drive out of a hat - I reckon that would soon even the playing field and give us a wider range of winning drivers!
