Dynaste on the Gallops
Well I hope everyone enjoyed a great Christmas day, now to the serious business! Lost of racing action to look forward to this afternoon, all meetings are currently on (which weren't abandoned earlier in the week) but please be aware there is a 8.30am inspection at Sedgefield due to an overnight frost. They are quite hopeful however so please just keep an eye out for news. The other meetings we definitely have to look forward to of course are the big one at Kempton, Wetherby, Market Rasen, Fontwell, Towcester and Wincanton. There is also a flat card at Wolverhampton. The two meetings lost were Huntingdon and Ffos Las due to waterlogging. Kempton has £420,000 in prize money up for grabs in a terrific card. The feature race is of course the King George which looks a fantastic race. Dynaste is on his way to the course and we are all hopeful of a good run. After a career best performance last time in the Betfair Chase we are all excited to have a chance in this prestigious race. Of course, Cue Card is the one we are all aiming at but you could not rule any of the nine runners out and it is should be a fascinating watch. There is also the Christmas hurdle race to look forward to where The New One takes on My Tent or Yours. Western Warhorse is making his chasing debut at the track. He is the winner of an Irish point to point and has schooled well at home. He ran well at Cheltenham on his seasonal reappearance and although slightly disappointing last time we are hopeful of a good run this afternoon.
David's other runners are spread around the country this afternoon. We have Heath Hunter and Border Breaker at Sedgefield, Junior and Kilrye at Wetherby and Garde Ville at Fontwell. The ground is going to be very testing at all tracks this afternoon so if you are planning to have a bet just make sure your selections are likely to handle the ground.
It is hard to believe that Ruby Walsh has not ridden a winner at Leopardstown before on Boxing Day. Mind you, it is the first time he has ridden at the track since 2001. He will be okay today though as he has five rides and two of the Willie Mullins horses are odds on so he should have no trouble getting that winner this afternoon!
Looking at the football and the Premier League today - Everton 2/5, Man Utd 4/6 and Tottenham 11/20 will be my football treble. Spurs will still be on a high with their new manager and West Brom are struggling.
In the cricket, surprise surprise England are struggling again in the Melbourne test. When I last looked they are 226-6. There is a world record crowd at the match and it looks great weather. Just imagine sitting there with a pint in your hand! Have a nice Boxing day everyone!
