The recent deluges are really starting to take their toll on the fixture list now and following Sandown's abandonment yesterday afternoon, Wincanton have followed suit, so all that is left for us to enjoy this afternoon is one meeting over the sticks at Newcastle and an all-weather flat card from Lingfield. The way things are going, if they want to show any live action, Channel 4 could well end up down at Wadebridge in Cornwall for their point-to-point meeting tomorrow as Plumpton (currently waterlogged in places) inspect at 11.00am today! When will this rain ever stop? Only yesterday the coastguard had to move 500 idiots (sorry, I mean wave watchers) away from the promenade, can you believe it? Really, where do these people keep their brains?
Flat jockey Martin Dwyer had a nasty fall from Columbian Roulette at Southwell yesterday. His mount jinked badly left and unseated the rider who was knocked unconcious. Fortunately Dwyer was discharged in the evening - everything seems to happen so quickly when flat jockeys have a fall.

Thankfully the Ashes series is nearly over. The Aussies bowled us out for 155 - our top five batsmen making a stupifying 19 runs between them. They lead by 311 runs and a whitewash looks to be on the cards. This England team are probably the worst ever to tour Australia and we probably make the home side look a lot better than they actually are.

There is a great FA Cup game on ITV at 5.15pm between Arsenal and Spurs so you know where I will be! I wonder how many of the top Permier League teams will rest their top players? I think that plenty of the reserves will get their chance to shine this evening.
I see that Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler is in the running to take over at Torquay United. After all those years at the top of the game, Robbie has to be loaded and could probably buy Torquay United and get them out of trouble! His arrival would certainly generate renewed interest in the club who are currently struggling in League Two.

Away from sport, I understand that Only Fools And Horses is set to return. It was my favourite television programme, but the problem is they are never as good second time around. I hope they don't ruin the legacy - they did some awful spin off a few years ago called The Green Green Grass. Anyway lovely jubbly...
