You can tell that the flat season is about to step up a gear - for the second consecutive day there are four meetings taking place this afternoon, with three of the fixtures taking place on the all-weather, while there is only one jumps meeting.  The flat action comes to you from Wolverhampton, Southwell and Kempton, while the stable has one runner, Our Chief at Ffos Las.  Our Chief (pictured above) is a well related sort who takes in the bumper - he has had one start to date, when he finished fourth at Wincanton and he will have learned plenty from that experience.  Tom Scudamore is in the saddle.

Our runners Decoy and The Darling Boy were both a little disappointing at Exeter yesterday, although they have already shown that they are more than capable of winning in their turn so I am sure there will be other days for them..

At a time when some of the biggest greyhound tracks are under threat, I find the concept of a dog track at Towcester racecourse very odd.  In my experience the busiest greyhound tracks are always in a town - I used to go to Walthamstow and it was a great night out and always busy.  I cannot imagine Towcester pulling in big crowds as it is too far from anywhere (there is not even a railway station close by).  Another track cannot be a bad thing and I hope they draw in decent crowds. I wish Towcester the very best of luck with this venture, although I fear they are going to need it.

There is a big cricket match taking place at 1.30pm this afternoon as England take on Sri Lanka in the Twenty Twenty World Cup cricket.  England have to win to keep their hopes alive...it should be an exciting and close match although England seem to have lost that winning formula.

I see that Celtic have already sewn up the Scottish Premier League (the earliest this has been achieved since the 1928/29 season) for the 45th time.  It is hardly surprising with old rivals Rangers absent from the division.  The engravers might as well save themselves a bit of money at put their name on the trophy for the next few years as I can't see anyone else getting close.

I was thrilled with last night's results - not only did the Hammers manage to win, but I backed them as well!  They were terribly lucky however, our winning goal came from Hull's James Chester!  Not only that, they were down to ten men as well.  It is hardly surprising that the fans booed manager Big Sam Allardyce - the most surprising thing is that he is surprised!  Fortunately for West Ham there are a lot of bad teams at the bottom of the Premiership!
