The action is a bit thin on the ground if you are a fan of the jumps with four fixtures taking place this afternoon, all on the level at Nottingham, Catterick, Lingfield and Kempton.  Indeed, the only place you will get to see any National Hunt racing is if you travel over to Limerick in Ireland!  While we are on the subject of flat racing, I see that Frankie Dettori has issued a bold statement with regard to Arc winner Treve, "Treve is the best horse in the world and she's probably the best horse I've ridde", just think of all the horses the evergree Italian has ridden down the years - I am thinking of the likes of Dubai Millenium, Mark Of Esteem and Lammtara...is the French wonder filly really better than all of those greats?

At least there is some local racing to look forward to over the jumps tomorrow, with Taunton hosting a card.  The stable is likely to have a handful of runners including all-weather flat and hurdles winner Purple 'N Gold (pictured above) who will participate in the handicap hurdle.  He has enjoyed a little break and it will be good to see him back in action over the coming months.

I see that A P McCoy has decided not to appeal against the four day whip ban that he picked up at Aintree for his ride aboard Diakali.  That means that the champ will be out of action over Easter and will miss the Irish National at Fairyhouse on 21st April.  It is a shame for racing fans that they will not be able to see the greatest jockey of all time in a big race like this, especially back in his own country.  I wonder if he will be away looking for his golf ball in Portugal?

I know that it happens every once in a while, but how can 100/1 chances win at the races?  The horse I am thinking of was Champagne Rules, the winner of the maiden at Pontefract yesterday.  Trainer Sharon Watt said that he was the best horse she has ever trained...I wonder what price her lesser horses were sent off at?!

I did my money yesterday when Fitzwilly was beaten in the 2m2f handicap on the same card.  I was feeling confident when my selection was backed from 7/2 into 2/1but sadly I had failed to consider that the horse clearly does not want soft ground.

Can you remember the last time that Manchester United were 10/1 to win a football match?  Well, those are the odds tonight as United travel to Bayern Munich for the return leg of the Champions League clash.  The match is live on Sky Sports at 7.45pm.  Keep it a secret, but I might just have a little flutter at those sort of odds...I would hate Eddie or Tony to find out!

There was a great result last night for Chelsea as they beat Paris St Germain 2-0.  The French side are miles clear are miles clear in their league...it is clearly not as strong a division as they would like to think.

I see that Leicester were beaten 4-1 in the Premier League by Brighton.  I don't think that £100million would keep them up next year!
