It is day two of the Newmarket Guineas meeting this afternoon and it is the turn of the ladies with the 1,000 Guineas the highlight.  It is a Group One contest with £410,000 in prize money up for grabs - unsurprisingly it has attracted a high class, nineteen runner field.  Supporting that, there is also a Group Three race on what looks to be a very good card.  Meanwhile, there are also flat meetings from Hamilton and Salisbury.  With no jump action on the menu, the stable has a Sunday off.

I see that bookmaker Paddy Power has priced up this years' jump jockeys' championship on a handicap basis.  Tom Scudamore is an 8/1 chance with a 95 winner head start over A P McCoy, while Barry Geraghty is also 8/1 but with a 150 winner head start over the champ.  Don't forget that while he does not ride over here full-time, Geraghty still has the might of the Henderson team to rely on and at certainly looks worth a bet...the only drawback I can see is that you have to wait a while to collect your winnings!

I have been watching the build-up to the Carl Froch and George Groves rematch at Wembley on 31st May for some weeks now and I have to say, I am not sure that there is the sort of animosity between the two men that has been made out in the press.  Mind you, a bit of aggro between fighters has always sold tickets and at the end of the day it is all about bums on seats.

I had to chuckle when I saw England cricket bad boy Kevin Pietersen's tweeted reaction to the news of England batting coach, Graham Gooch's sacking.  He said, "Where do I apply for the England batting coach job?  I won't encourage whistling when you get out or trying to change the game."  I wonder what he means by that?  Seems a little deep to me!

My local football team Torquay United are heading out of league football.  They are currently bottom of League 2 and played the team that are third from bottom yesterday.  I went and saw the Gulls play recently and it was a terrible match on a cold evening.  You know it is far from entertaining when you keep looking at your watch!  It will take a massive effort to get them back into the league proper - you would think that a town the size of Torquay would have a league side!
