Yesterday was another good day for the yard with another success courtesy of another of our stable amateurs. This time it was the turn of David Noonan to score his first success under rules aboard Purple 'N Gold (pictured above) at Kempton. I have said all along that I thought a sharp track like Kempton would suit our versatile five year old down to the ground. David gave him a good ride to prevail by 3/4 length so very well done to him, let's hope it is the first of many. Over at Ffos Las Vif Argent was unable to follow-up last week's course victory under French amateur Thomas Viel, but he ran well nevertheless to finish second over thee miles. He looked the likely winner two out but was run out of it by Moss Of The Mill - he seemed to stay this longer trip okay and has the ability to score again.

There are five meetings taking place this afternoon - three flat cards from Kempton, Catterick and Brighton as well as jumps fixtures at Exeter and Fakenham. The stable has five runners at the Devon track; Our Chief, Lola Galli, Makadamia, Dan Breen and Courtlands Prince. I thought that Makadamia ran a decent race to finish fourth at Wincanton last time and a similar level of form would give her sound prospects in this mares' novices' hurdle under Tom Scudamore.

Can you believe that amateur jockey Harry Beswick (My Old China) was unseated from his mount by a pair of swans. He has to be careful as swans are owned by The Queen. I wonder how the formbooks will describe the incident? By the way, Beswick is fine china - I saw it once on the Antiques Roadshow!

How on earth did Liverpool manage to blow a 3-0 lead against Crystal Palace? The reds ended up drawing 3-3 and that seems to have ended their title hopes. They can score plenty of goals, the trouble is they concede quite a few as well.

The final of the world snooker was a thrilling affair that featured a fine fightback from Mark Selby to overturn a five frame defecit against reigning champion Ronnie O'Sullivan. Selby tied 'The Rocket' up in knots with his defensive play and Ronnie did miss a few vital pots. Selby reclaimed his world number one spot and picked up a cheque for £300,000 - not a bad seventeen days work! There is rumour that the world championship is going to leave Sheffield, the spiritual home of the tournament for China next season. Someone will make an awful lot of money from that.

I see that Sir Roger Bannister, the first athlete to run a mile in under four minutes believes that someone will run a mile in under 3 1/2 minutes. He's obviously seen Simon Crockett trying to get to the bar for his lager at the Culm Valley!
