We have had better nights at Gotham City, or should I say Wetherby after we didn't manage to make it onto the scoreboard despite three well-fancied runners. Broadway Buffalo finished second on his chasing debut and to my mind it didn't look as though he got home on this soft ground. A drop back in trip or an easier track could be the answer, while I am sure that he will be more polished in his jumping next time. While it is always disappointing when an odds-on shot is beaten, it is worth remembering that the winner, Lovcen was a Grade One winner over hurdles so all is far from lost. Barton Stacey never appeared to be going, while Western Diva seemed to be gifted her race when the 1/2 favourite departed at the penultimate hurdle...I think we will draw a line under last night!

There are six meetings taking place this afternoon - five on the flat at Newmarket, Newcastle, Brighton, Haydock and Catterick as well as a jumps fixture from Stratford. The card at Stratford is a mixed Hunter Chaser and National Hunt card and there is £80,000 in prize money up for grabs. I should congratulate Stratford on a really good effort, their prize money is more than Brighton and Haydock combined and more even than Newmarket...a fantastic achievement for the course.

It just goes to show that you cannot always rely on work shown on the gallops when it comes to translating that ability to the racecourse. Last night Nicky Henderson had two runners in the bumper at Worcester and the 11/10 favourite Profit Commission was well beaten by 10/3 stablemate Leaderofthedance. It reminds me of recent reports from the Ballydoyle gallops that Geoffrey Chaucer had worked better than Australia!

There should be an interesting football match tonight as England play Peru on ITV at 8pm in their World Cup warm-up. England are 1/3 chances and if you want to buy some money, then this could be the bet you are looking for. If they cannot beat a team like Peru, then they have no business in going to Brazil.
I see that One Direction's Louis Tomlinson wants to buy struggling Doncaster Rovers. Remember he played for the reserve team in February - if he buys the team, he could be the first chairman to play for their club. I'm sure an appearance from him would do wonders for gate receipts!
Finally, I know that Ricky Lambert is getting on a bit, but at £4million he looks to me like a good buy for Liverpool.
