After a couple of fantastic days action from Epsom, there are just two meetings taking place this afternoon. Having said that, there is no shortage of quality with a good card from Goodwood on the level as well as jumping action from Perth. Tom Scudamore makes the long journey up to Perth to ride Guess Again (pictured above) for the stable in the Perth Gold Cup - it is a race we won last year with Problema Tic, so let's hope that we can repeat the feat with this one. There are eleven runners lined up for the £25,000 prize money on offer and Irish trainer Gordon Elliott comes across with two runners for the race. He saddles Raajh (the mount of A P McCoy) and Oldem Cowboy (Davy Condon), so it looks like our ex-amateur pilot means business!

There is the small matter of the Canadian Formula One Grand Prix taking place in Montreal this afternoon and I will never understand how you can have team-mates in motor sport. Surely every driver is trying their best to win? The betting for the race is 1/2 Lewis Hamilton and 2/1 Nico Rosberg and 20/1. It would seem that Mercedes have managed to produce a car that is far superior to anybody else. At least the rivalry between the Mercedes drivers should be interesting - they were good mates going into this season, it could well be a different story at the end of the season with a world championship on the line, especially if there is noone else to challenge them!
I thought that cars were supposed to be getting faster and faster, but I notice that the track record is held by a Ferrari fro 2004. There is no rain expected so soft and super-soft tyres are the order of the day - that is the extent of my F1 knowledge!

It looks as though Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff will have to wait until Tuesday to play in a 50 over match for Lancashire's 2nd team at Glamorgan. It is hard to get back into top class sport after a six year break. I think he will need a few matches to get fully fit. It is not the smae as advertising clothes or dropping catches on the beach!

I see that the Racing Post are advertising a great French hotel, The Royal Barriere at Deauville. We often stay there when we attend the Arqana summer sale. The last time I was there I bumped into my hero Lester Piggott at the bar. The trouble was, I had just forked out €27 for three coffees so I couldn't even afford to buy the 'Long Fellow' a drink! We will be heading back to Deauville in three weeks for the sales and David has enjoyed great success there down the years, buying the likes of Dynaste, Grands Crus, Gevrey Chambertin, Vieux Lion Rouge and Dell' Arca. Hopefully he will be able to pick out some more potential top-notch recruits from the catalogue this time around and if you would be interested in joining the owners ranks at Pond House, please do feel free to contact us for a no obligation chat to discuss your requirements.
