It's a quiet day on the racing front with only two meetings, both on the flat at Doncaster and Salisbury.  At least the Salisbury card features a Listed contest with £22,684 in prize money up for grabs - with so much lovely warm weather at the moment though, the ground is going to be plenty lively enough.  Having said that, I see that Ascot was hit by an unexpected 15mm deluge of rain on Friday night ahead of their Royal meeting next week.  That came just hours after they had put 14mm of water on the track, changing the going from good (good/firm in places) to good/soft (good in places).  Even so, with no further rain forecast before the start of the meeting I would be surprised if the ground was any slower than good.

Talking of Royal Ascot it will be unusual that the stable will not be represented on the track next week.  We have had plenty of success at the meeting down the years, particularly in the Ascot Stakes.  Martin won the race a number of times (Sweet Glow springs to mind, possibly because it took a couple of days to collect my winnings!), while David was successful with Junior in 2010.  He has a different type of horse in the yard nowadays, with them largely being National Hunt bred store types.

If you buy a copy of the Sun newspaper, they are offering 2 for 1 admission to Lingfield racecourse through all of July and August.  All you have to do is go to Lingfield's website and enter the promotional code - that will save you £19 - not a bad offer by any means.

Today's World Cup football match doesn't exactly capture the imagination so the next big game that I will be looking forward to will be on Monday at 5pm...Germany versus Portugal.  That should certainly be a game to savour.
Meanwhile, England's next game comes against Costa Rica on 24th June - England are currently priced up at 1/2 and I will be taking a bit of that as I can see them being shorter on the day.

Imagine being named Romeo Casanova Valentino Romaeo.  He is actually an 18 year old boxer from Bristol, so I think it is a lovely name!  He has won all three of his professional fights to date and is clearly a multi talented chap as he can speak Chinese and Japanese as well as his native tongue.  However, with a name like his you would have thought that he was a lover, not a fighter!  Keep smiling...
