There are five meetings taking place this afternoon at Newcastle, Carlisle, Yarmouth, Hamilton and Leicester - all of them are on the flat and indeed there is no jump racing taking place over the sticks until Uttoxeter on Sunday. Our solitary runner at Worcester yesterday, Dan Breen finished seventh in the 2m7f handicap hurdle. He travelled strongly behind the leaders until turning in and was only beaten off between the last two hurdles. It was his first try at this sort of trip and it appeared as though he didn't quite get home. A return to slightly shorter could see him competitive once again.

Pictured below is our recent Perth Gold Cup winner Guess Again in action on the gallops. As you can see, he is very well in himself and is one of three entries that we have in the big race at Uttoxeter on Sunday, The John Smith's Summer Cup handicap chase - our other entries are No Secrets and Vif Argent.
Question: If a jockey wins a race but breaks the whip rules by hitting his mount with excessive frequency, should his mount not be disqualified? I know it is bad news for the owners, but as far as I can see it is the only way we can stop the jockeys being whip happy...there you go, another rule that I have sorted out for the BHA!
Looking ahead to the Irish Derby this Saturday, I see that Aidan O'Brien is responsible for no fewer than seven of the eleven runners in the big race. Depending on which ones the Ballydoyle trainer leaves in, I would imagine that son Joseph will be faced with a bit of a dilemma as to which one he should choose to ride. They would appear to have a better than fair chance of adding the Irish Derby to the Epsom equivalent.

Unsurprisingly the newspapers are full of opinions of Luis Suarez. Surely Liverpool must give him the boot? They stood by him all of last season, but surely this latest incident is all too much...will the Spanish or Italian clubs still be interested in paying upwards of £50million for the hungry Uruguayan forward? He would be a massive loss to the Merseyside team but he keeps bringing the great club's name down.
Meanwhile Argentina struggled to beat Nigeria 3-2 last night...it seems that every country is improving with the exception of England!

Amazingly there are still two Brits in the Wimbledon tennis tournament; Andy Murray and Heather Watson. Mind you, Heather plays the number nine seed Angelique Kerber in the second round today so Murray will be the last one standing once again...nothing much changes there then!
