All on the Flat

Today we have six metings all on the flat at Newmarket, Ascot, York, Chester, Salisbury and Hamilton.  I know I keep mentioning prize money but Hamilton get away with £30,000 for their seven race card today.  There is a good card at Newmarket.  The ground looked soft yesterday and found out quite a few fancied horses.  Sky Lantern was not given a hard race by Richard Hughes once he realised she was not handling the soft ground.  Earlier in the day, Ryan Moore rode French jockey Maxine Guyon to sleep in the Group 2 Duchess of Cambridge stakes.  Talking of Ryan Moore, he has hit out at fixture congestion.  We have all these good flat cards today and yet tomorrow there are no flat meetings but we have three jumps cards at Stratford, Southwell and Perth.  I keep saying this as well but I don't thing the fixtures organisers have got a clue about the difference between flat and jumps racing!  They also need a map of the UK!  It all makes me think that if you are a jockey you should be able to ride onthe flat or over jumps!  Richard Hughes flys from Newmarket to Salisbury to ride Mister Loso in the 6.55pm race so he must be expecting this one to win!

Brazil play Holland for the third place playoff in the World Cup today.  I would not think either team are particularly looking forward to this one.  Brazil need to bounce back from their 7-1 thrashing by Germany while the Dutch had a draining game against Argentina.  Brazil priced at 6/5 looks okay and Messi at 6/4 to secure the Golden Boot also looks okay.

In the cricket, why do we set the pitches up so slow?!  I guess it is probably the only way they can be sure the test match goes to five days maybe?  Our batsmen collapsed again.  The two big sports in this country are football and cricket and yet we are useless at both at the moment!  It was lucky that Root and Broad got a few runs and saved the follow on.

Menawhile in the golf at the Scottish Open - how can Rory McIlroy shoot a 64 and the next day have a 78?  That is 14 shots worse.  If I did that at my local golf club I would be disappointed!  Have a nice day.
