It looks like an interesting day's action from the four meetings taking place this afternoon. There are three fixtures on the level at Ayr, Windsor and Beverley as well as a jumps card from Cartmel. The stable has no runners today, although I thought that Street Entertainer ran creditably to finish third under top-weight in a compeititive handicap hurdle at Newton Abbot yesterday. I still think that he can win from his current mark and the faster the ground for him, the better. The spoils undoubtedly went to Hadden Frost who rode a treble on the card - it must have been a belated birthday present from the day before!

There was a lovely little get together last night as we celebrated A P McCoy riding more winners than MCP ever trained. The champion jockey and his lovely wife Chanelle came down to Pond House, A P having ridden at Stratford in the afternoon before travelling to Cartmel today to ride. He has certainly racked up some mileage on his car during the last 24 hours. A P was unsurprisingly in very good form and told quite a few interesting stories, many of which could not be repeated! When I asked him which was the best horse he ever rode for Martin he didn't even have to think about it, the reply?...Gloria Victis. It was a lovely night - what I can remember of it at least!
Many happy returns to stable sponsor Wayne Clifford who is 61 today. Wayne and his wife Sarah have done so much to support racing with their sponsorship of tracks up and down the country - we hope you have a lovely day. It is also the birthday of Gino Paletta who is 57 today, although Wayne looks a lot younger! Seriously though, Gino is a great chap and always plays host to myself and David when we make our annual pilgimage to Aintree for the Grand National in April.

What a great win for Rory McIlroy in the Open at Holylake. He had a big enough lead after the first two rounds to hang on for success by two strokes and pick up a cool £975,000. He now needs one more major to complete the Grand Slam. Rory and A P are both great Irish sporstmen - it's just a shame they do not have any cricketers that we could claim! Unsurprisingly it looks like we are going to lose the second Test match against India - the captain is so badly out of form that is is surely time that he is rested?

With all of the problems in the world, I was disgusted to see some of the front pages of the daily newspapers dominated by the mug of Katie Price, aka Jordan. Without wishing to put it too bluntly, who gives a monkeys about what she is up to? Vladamir Putin is the one we should be hearing about - he has a big mess to sort out and quickly.
