I was extremely impressed to see that trainer and owner Karen McLintock and Carolyn Todd should choose to give Tom Scudamore (pictured above) the leg-up aboard Run Forest Run at Uttoxeter this afternoon. This is the horse aboard which Tom Scudamore earned his twelve day holiday earlier in the week when taking the wrong course at Cartmel. It would have been easy for connections to put another jockey up, so I hope their faith and kindness will be repaid at 3.30pm this afternoon. I am sure that some of the jockeys will be giving Scu some stick and I can just imagine one or two of them saying, "Tom you had better follow us!"
It's a busy day with six meetings taking place this afternoon - there are five fixtures on the level from Ascot, Thirsk, York, Newmarket and Lingfield as well as a jumps card from Uttoxeter. There is some very good action from Ascot today with a Listed contest on the card backed up by some good prize money.
Surely it is about time that something was done about Bath racecourse. The ground was officially firm for yesterday's meeting and it led to a card full of small fields including a two and a four runner race. If you finished second in the two runner race, you would pick up £1925 for your trouble. As far as I can tell, this completel defeats the object of the sport and is no good for racing in general. While I am not a fan of artificially altering the ground, you cannot have conditions that closely resemble a road - it is about time that they sorted out some kind of watering system.
Footballer Wayne Rooney has bought a 12 1/2% stake in a horse called Wraps...I hope the England forward realises that the Wraps are not to be eaten!

I must confess that I am finding it difficult to summon up much enthusiasm for the Commonwealth Games. We have had so many top class sporting events over the past few months that this seems almost anti-climactic. Add to the fact that there are plenty of competitions that I have never even heard of and the whole thing has proved something of a turn-off. Maybe it is just old age catching up with me...who said that?!

I see that Mercedes are currently negotiating with Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton about a new £30 million contract to stay with the team. I wonder why he needs so much money - it is not as though he will be able to go out and get any bigger studs for his ears as they will make the car too heavy!
