Tom Scu - Good start to the season

Today we have four flat cards at Ffos Las, Carlisle, Nottingham and Lingfield.  The all-weather card has just £30,000 in prize money on offer, mind you Ffos Las and Carlisle only have £32,000 up for grabs.  All three turf meetings have their going down as good to soft.  David has one runner, Bathwick Street who runs in the 5.15pm at Ffos Las with Willie Twiston-Davies in the saddle. He is having his first run since May 2013 and the first for Pond House but he did win his last two starts for David Evans so it will be interesting to see how he gets on.

I see that Tom Scu is still second in the jumps jockey's championship with 42 winners.  He is getting a lot of outside rides and in fact only 20 of his current winners have been for David.  Just think if you had a pound on all Tom's rides you would be showing a profit of £38.75.  Although Tom is just starting his holiday for his Carlisle mishap this has the potential to be his best ever season.  AP is of course still leading the way and he has had 89 winners from 294 rides, how long can he go on for?!

Looking back at yesterday's racing I just wonder how long the form will stand up when we get back to quicker ground?  All meetings were on the soft side yesterday.  I watched the seller at Thirsk, there was no bid for the winner but the 5th horse Mysterial was well beaten yet claimed for £6,000.  It was a mysterial to me why it was claimed!

Rory McIlroy is 100/1 for the Grand Slam with Ladbrokes.  If Ladbrokes go 100/1 the odds should be much bigger.  I always think sportsmen have spells of brilliance and Rory is in one of those spells at the moment.  It can easily go wrong, especially in golf.  Also in golf news, Tiger Woods wants Tom Watson to pick him for the Ryder Cup team.  How can you pick such an out of form player who might still be carryinig a back injury?  At the moment he is past his sell by date and I don't see how they can pick him.

In the boxing, one of the boxers Frank Maloney promotes said, "does it mean we will get bigger purses?".  I am saying nothing for a change!

You will be pleased to hear and maybe find it hard to believe that we have jumps racing again tomorrow!  Newton Abbot hosts the first jumping since the mini break and David is likely to have a few runners so check back here tomorrow for news of them.  Have a nice day.
