Grands Crus with delighted connections following his facile Cheltenham success
It was a very good weekend for the stable runners with an across the card double at Cheltenham and Fontwell courtesy of Grands Crus and Peut Etre Sivola. Grands Crus was impressive in winning the intermediate handicap hurdle and this lightly raced five year old gelding looks most progressive, while Peut Etre Sivola put up another dour performance in recording his second success in the Southern National over three and a half miles. There was a great quote from Peut Etre Sivola's winning jockey Johnny Farrelly, "He loves the twists and turns of Fontwell, this track brings the best out of him, he's partially blind in one eye and is slow as a boat but he jumped brilliantly". Anyway, well done to "The Hat" on a good ride!
On Saturday Junior ran a solid race when finishing third in the long distance handicap chase and I just had the feeling that slightly livelier ground might suit him better. Even so, it was a decent effort and he is still relatively lightly raced over fences and looks capable of winning further nice races. Raslan also performed creditably under top weight in the handicap hurdle under a good ride from Danny Cook, but he looks to be firmly in the handicapper's grip at present.

After watching the boxing on Saturday night I have come to the conclusion that Audley Harrison should be nominated for an Oscar! He picked up about £1.2million for his three rounds with David Haye. I would think that Harrison must be the worst Olympic champion of all time - he managed to get a million out of the BBC when he turned professional - he's certainly a good talker, so maybe his next vocation will be as an actor! Talk about bad judges, I see that both Frank Bruno and Evander Holyfield (both former world champions) thought that Harrison would win - years of getting your head pounded in a boxing ring must affect your judgement!
I was one of the more sensible people and rather than paying £15 to watch the contest from the comfort of your own home, I watched the fight in my local pub...it was certainly an early night! British tennis ace Andy Murray predicted a Haye knockout in the second or third rounds - good judge is Murray!

I see that Sebastian Vettel became the youngest Formula One World Champion on Sunday after victory in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. It is the first time the young German has led the championship all season - talk about good timing! At the age of twenty one he looks to be a certainty to win a handful of titles providing his team can keep giving him competitive machinery.
