It was a good evening for the stable at Worcester yesterday as we won with two of our three runners at the course.  If you backed Barton Stacey (pictured above) you owe the champion jockey, A P McCoy a large drink - it is rides like this one that stand him out as the greatest jockey of all time.  The horse touched 90/1 in running so some of the layers must have had their fingers burnt!  Conversely A P will probably be a little bit embarrassed to take his riding fee for the bloodless victory of Street Entertainer - he won with so much in hand, I reckon even I could have won aboard our seven year old.  Thinking about it, that last comment might be a slight exaggeration!  Anyway, the double takes David's seasonal tally to 28 and consolidates his third spot in the trainers' table which is pretty good when you consider the relatively small number of runners he has had over the summer period.

There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with three on the level at Ffos Las, Hamilton and Lingfield as well as two jumps fixtures from Fontwell and Stratford - the stable has no runners today.

If the daily newspapers stop reporting on the race meetings and stop printing the racecards our sport will be in a terrible state.  As far as I can tell we need more help from the media - we certainly need them more than they need us.  I am not sure that the people running the sport realise this - we must keep them on side!

I have often wondered why the big clubs enter the Capital One Cup?  Most of the Premier League sides do not want to be in it, you only have to look at the squads that they field to see as much.  QPR and Aston Villa lost last night and that now makes six Premiership sides that are already out.

The highlight of the sporting calendar The BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards(!) are getting closer and surely there can only be only one winner.  Golfer Rory McIlroy must surely be some sort of good thing following his recent exploits - I would be surprised if the greedy bookies even bothered pricing it up!  They bet on everything else, I see they have even made Manchester United manager Van Gaal a 4/7 chance not to see out the duration of his three year contract - you may not have long to collect your winnings!
