Quiet Tuesday

Today we have four meetings, all on the flat at Goodwood, Hamilton, Carlisle and Kempton.  At least one of the cards has prize money under £30,000.  I see that Towcester have sold seven of there fixtures so they can stage more greyhound racing.  The Arena Racing company have paid more than a million pounds.  We will probably end up with a lot more low grade all-weather cards.  How do Arena Racing make it pay?  I thought dog racing was in the decline so how are Towcester going to make it pay?  It looks like we are all going to the dogs!

It is hard to believe it but Ryan Moore had his first ride of the season at Brighton yesterday.  Remember his dad Gary only trains just down the road.  He did ride a double from his seven mounts and is now 11 clear of Champion Richard Hughes.

In the tennis, Andy Murray beat Jo Wilfred Tsonga in the US Open 7-5, 7-5, 6-4.  This is his best win for a year but now he faces Novak Djokovic in the quarter finals tomorrow which should be a cracker.

On deadline day for football transfers, Man United sign Radamel Falcao on a year loan and their price shortens for the Premiership.  I still think it is defenders he needed to sign.  Mind you recently they have not been scoring too many goals either!  Where will he play them all?!  It's double duth to me!

In the golfing world it is today they pick the Ryder Cup squads.  McGinley has three wild card picks.  I think he has to go with Stephen Gallacher, Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood so it could be unlucky for Luke Donald.
