There are four meetings taking place on these shores this afternoon, three of them on the level at Yarmouth, Thirsk and Chepstow as well as a jumps fixture at Sedgefield. Stable jockeyTom Scu makes the long journey up north for a couple of outside rides at Sedgefield, the last of which is at 6.35pm. By the time he gets home, he will be just in time for Friday's meeting at Newton Abbot!

I see that following last season's inaugural £1million Good Friday all-weather flat meeting from Lingfield, they will be repeating the exercise next year. The course drew a crowd of 9,000 people last season, although I still think the money would be better utilised spreading it around some of the other meetings. I think racing on a Good Friday will attract a good turnout - Musselburgh had 3,000 visitors last year and they weren't putting up £1million!
I must say I was most amused by the comments of trainer Jamie Osborne when he said he was "considering sending some runners to Ayr at the weekend, but I am worried about the exchange rate!" Jamie always did have a good sense of humour.

The latest in our series of photographs from the gallops is of Barton Stacey (Zoë Martin). Our nine year old has been in a rich vein of form, winning three times already this summer. I see that he holds an entry at Plumpton this weekend and I am sure it won't be long before David turns him out again while he is in such good order.

West Ham managed to earn a good point last night as they drew 2-2 with Hull. I thought that the Hammers were the better team and Hull can thank a great performance from Hernandez for their point. There was a spectacular goal from Valencia and I reckon that both of these teams will be staying up this season if they continue to play to this standard.
Christiano Ronaldo has said that he would like to move back to Manchester United. They might as well have eleven forwards! He would certainly be a marvellous signing for either of the Manchester clubs.
I would love to know how FIFA President Sepp Blatter manages to keep his job. Surely he must realise that it is time to step down, or is he that thick skinned and stupid that he doesn't see that no-one wants him? I bet he is never late for a meeting judging by that expensive watch on his wrist.
There is some interesting football action taking place tonight and I will be having a little treble on Cambridge at 8/11, Bristol Rovers at 8/15 and Kidderminster at 8/13...you heard it here first!
