There are six meetings taking place this afternoon with four on the flat from York, Newmarket, Musselburgh and Wolverhampton as well as quality jumps action coming from Chepstow and Hexham.  Somehow Wolverhampton get away with just £35,000 in prize money spread across eight races on a Saturday...at least Chepstow have some decent money with over £100,00 up for grabs at Chepstow.

The stable has four runners at Chepstow Brook (pictured above), Sivron, Broadway Buffalo and Herbert Park and three of the four runners are having their first run for our yard.  Broadway Buffalo was turned over at 1/5 at Wetherby on his chasing debut last time out (albeit by a Grade One winning hurdler), but with that run under his belt he should jump better today – the trouble is that Southfield Theatre was rated 9lbs better than us over hurdles.  The Nicholls runner is having his first run over fences today on his seasonal debut.

I thought that Philip Hobbs' Colour Squadron looked all over the winner of the valuable intermediate chase at Newton yesterday but was caught by Wonderful Charm.  I am starting to have my doubts about the runner-up - one bumper win and a hurdle win looks a pretty miserable return for an eight year old with a rating of 152.  Perhaps I am just talking out of my pocket as I am running out of money to back him with!

Anyway, onto our series of interviews with the staff and broadcaster Mike Vince caught up with stable jockey Tom Scudamore and recent starter David Smalle who both have horses to follow for the season ahead that are in action this afternoon - to find out which ones they are, you will have to watch the videos below...

David Smalle Horse To Follow

Unfortunately champion jockey AP McCoy was unable to ride at Newton Abbot yesterday afternoon and will be out of action for the remainder of the weekend at least, but he was still able to go to Newton Abbot yesterday to unveil a bronze of himself.  There is a picture of the bust on page three of the Racing Post, but there are plenty of other page three busts I would rather look at!

It is the Cesarewitch flat handicap at Newmarket this afternoon and no fewer than twelve jumps trainers have a crack at the big race.  The favourite is the Tony Martin trained Quick Jack at 8/1, while Big Easy could be worth an interest at 12/1.  Martin won the race twice with Heros Fatal and Miss Fara and David has come close on a couple of occasions with Mamlook.

Onto football and I see that Ireland are 1/150 to beat Gibraltar.  Do these matches mean anything at all?  I thought that Gibraltar was just a rock!  Do they even have enough players to make a squad?!

Anyway, I will be having a little interest on some of the other matches and will go for East Fife at 3/4, Braintree at 8/13, Lincoln at 8/13 and Scotland at 8/11.
