It's been a gloomy start to the day, but I hope that a few readers will have joined me in backing Big Easy for the Cesarewitch at Newmarket on Saturday. I did suggest that he was worth an interest at odds of around 12/1 so not only did we back the winner of the big race, we nicked a couple of points off the bookies too...not a bad day's work at all! This afternoon there are three cards taking place with two flat cards from Windsor and Salisbury and some jumping action coming from Sedgefield. Although the stable has no runners, stable jockey Tom Scudamore is making the long journey all the way up to Sedgefield for just one ride aboard Monita Bonita for Tim Easterby in the 3.45pm race. You know what they say about jockeys travelling to a meeting for one ride...I'm not sure who said it, but perhaps it could be worth looking out for him this afternoon?
Some of you may recall that I mentioned jockey Darryll Holland was riding in China last week - well, he rode a winner which would have been watched by millions on television. He won aboard Ferryman who finished fifth in the 2012 Dewhurst at Newmarket. Holland has now ridden winners in Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Japan and South Korea...do you think he might enjoy a good takeaway?!

England's footballers managed to beat ten man Estonia 1-0 at the weekend. Raheem Sterling claimed that he was too tired to play! Sometimes I wonder if these pampered athletes live in the real world? I once helped a friend of mine out on a trawler for a year - now that is what you call hard work and I bet he wasn't earning hundreds of thousands of pounds a week!
As far as I can tell, our national team are just not very good. The press tend to hype them right up and then knock them down when they once again fail to live up to expectations. If they said that we were a second rate side the result wouldn't seem as bad...is that a negative approach?

I went pig racing last night in Torquay and even managed to tip up a few winners - the bookmakers called me a swine! It really is a good evening's entertainment with eight races lasting a couple of hours in total. What is more, they can be hired for private events and I see they will be at Ascot soon.
