It was certainly a day to remember yesterday at Newbury as stable jockey Tom Scudamore reached his fastest ever 100 winners and David recorded a double courtesy of Brook and Smiles For Miles. Brook (pictured above) is owned by the "Pipe Dreaming Ladies" and no joke, they must be among the noisiest group of owners I have ever met! In all seriousness though, it would be wonderful if all owners shared their infectious enthusiasm for their horses and the sport. They were even celebrating with champagne before the race, while afterwards they made their way to the Royal Box for ref
One of the Pipe Dreaming Ladies, Professor Caroline Tisdall went on to taste further success on the day when Smiles For Miles (pictured below) won his third race of the season under 11-7 on botttomless ground. I thought that he received a great ride from Tom Scu - what a way to bring up the 100...he rode exactly 100 winners last season, but with 3 1/2 months remaining of the current campaign, I would fancy him to ride considerably more this time around.

I was at Newbury yesterday and I don't mind telling you that the trip home in the helicopter was a little bumpy to say the least, especially when heading over the hills. It was so bumpy in fact that Scu was having trouble texting all of his well-wishers back.
Today there are meetings from Wincanton, Ludlow and Market Rasen over the sticks, while there is also an all-weather flat card from Wolverhampton. The stable has three runners this afternoon; Border Breaker runs at Ludlow and is partnered by Conor O'Farrell while Scu rides Great Choice and A Hairy Koala for us at Wincanton. I thought that Great Choice ran an absolute cracker at Cheltenham on his seasonal reappearance in November and this step up in trip. Hopefully he can provide a winner for another of our Pipe Dreaming Ladies, Jane Gerard-Pearse!

Spurs came back from 2-0 down to bear Burnley 4-2 last night. Meanwhile, I was watching Southampton beat Ipswich 1-0, mind you it wasn't a great game. My wife clearly realised that as well as she said, "you keep changing the channels so the match can't be any good." I think she knows me too well!
How can Manchester City even be contemplating paying £480million for Lionel Messi? It is totally obscene...surely there are better things you could do in this world with that sort of money? Putting it towards a cure for cancer perhaps?
