There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with two jumps cards from Wincanton and Towcester as well as flat cards from Southwell and Wolverhampton.  The stable runs Courtlands Prince, Brook, Softsong, Shoegazer and Look West at Wincanton, while What A Moment runs at Towcester.  There are some promising types among them so we will be keeping our fingers firmly crossed for a winner or two.  Brook (pictured above) was a decisive winner on heavy ground at Newbury last time and while this looks to be a slightly better race, he does receive 11lbs from paper favourite Otago Trail.  Our Towcester runner What A Moment was second in an Irish point-to-point so this stiff track will be ideal for our five year old and he looks like a nice ride for conditional jockey Kieron Edgar.

I was watching the racing from Chelmsford City yesterday and was impressed by the Marco Botti trained Stonecutter.  He won with a fair amount in hand and looks a real stayer in the making.  Connections say that he is a big baby and can only improve - definitely one to keep on the right side of on the all-weather.

Surely Diego Costa will get banned for stamping on Liverpool's Emre Can at the weekend.  He could appeal, although if he did and I was on the FA committee I would ban him for longer!  This sort of dirty play needs stamping out.

Andy Murray plays Berdych this morning for a place in the semi-finals of the Australian Open.  They don't get on too well so there is sure to be a bit of needle.  Let's hope that it doesn't upset Murray who seems to have rediscovered some of his best form.

Tiger Woods makes his return to action in the Phoenix Open - it is a rowdy crowd there at the best of times and I still remember Woods being heckled there is 1999 by a fan who was carrying a pistol.  Having said that, it seems that everyone in America carries a gun!  It will be interesting to see how Tiger gets on - it is a tournament that he normally gets his teeth into...that's the ones he has left!
