Tanerko Emery was our first winner of the day at Stratford on his debut for the yard. Conor O’Farrell gave him a great waiting riding and although he slightly surprised us by what he did on Saturday I am very much looking forward to seeing him out again as he has not had many runs and there should be plenty more to come. He is a lovely big chaser in the making but I am sure there are more prizes to be one with him over hurdles first.

Royal Mile was our winner at Chepstow for Malcolm Denmark and he gave young Kieron Edgar his first winner under rules for me. He was also making is stable debut and although he was a little keen throughout the race he jumped fantastically and stayed on strongly to win. This is his first victory and that should have really helped his confidence. He may well run under a penalty at Wetherby on Friday.  It was great for Kieron who joined our yard since leaving school and he was the Devon and Cornwall area novice point to point champion rider last season. That was his second winner under rules and he is a name to look out for over the coming months.

                    Weekend Millionair

On Sunday I travelled to Wincanton and it was great to have a winner for our yard sponsors, Bathwick Tyres and Wayne Clifford. I have always thought a lot of the horse and he was given a great ride by young Tom Bellamy who produced him perfectly at the last to win with his ears pricked. We rode him slightly differently than at Huntingdon the last time as he does tend to have a look about when he is at front and he clearly appreciated the change in tactics, winning slightly cosily in the end. That was his last chance to run in a novice hurdle so it will be the handicap route for him from now on and he should be competitive off a mark of 130. He will also make into a lovely chaser one day. Bathwick Man ran another cracking race to finish third and Franklin Roosevelt also ran well to finish third on his first start for the yard at Wincanton. Meanwhile up at Aintree Midnight Tuesday was slightly disappointing for no obvious reason but Broadway Buffalo won the bumper nicely to make it two from two for our four year old. It looked a pretty good open race beforehand and it is always hard to win a Bumper with a penalty so I was particularly delighted to see him run so well and win. I am not sure the immediate plan with him but he is sure to appreciate a slightly longer trip when he is sent over hurdles. He is owned by the Broadway partnership which includes rugby players Andy Powell, Mark Cueto and Dwayne Peel and it was great they were able to make it to the track to watch him. There were 15 of them at the races and I am told they had a fantastic day!

It is another busy week and I shall be at the Newmarket horses in training sales everyday look to hopefully purchase some potential star hurdlers of the future off the flat. I have been through the catalogue with a fine toothcomb so I just hope I will be able to get one or two. If anyone is interested in purchasing a horse, please do not hesitate to contact the office on 01884 840715 and they will be able to put you in touch with me.

The yard is also busy with runners this week and I hope we can continue with the same level of form that we showed at the weekend. Racing returns to local track Taunton tomorrow after its summer break and I have four runners. Terfel’s Toscar returns from his summer break while Businessmoney Judi, Vertige Dore and Dukes Art continue to try their luck. It is great to hear that Taunton racecourse now in fact have a reservoir. They have not been able to water the track before and have lost some fixtures because of firm ground but it is great for them and hopefully this should never happen again!

Looking ahead to later in the week we have entries at Hereford on Wednesday, Stratford on Thursday, Uttoxeter and Wetherby on Friday. At the weekend we have Street Entertainer, War Singer and Top Wood entered in the William Hill handicap hurdle and Matuhi is in the United House Gold Cup handicap chase at Ascot. On Sunday we have entries at Carlisle and Huntingdon so keep checking back on Chester’s daily blog for news of our runners throughout the week.
