Barton Stacey - Winner 3x This Season
Two winners at Worcester last Wednesday from only three runners during the week were fantastic and it has kept the seasons tally ticking over nicely. Barton Stacey made it two wins on the bounce, this time over fences snatching a race that he looked very unlikely to win turning in but a never say die ride from the red hot champ AP lifted him home in front. Street Entertainer made it a double on the night and won the seller in a canter but how he should of done on official ratings. AP had the complete opposite ride to Barton and simply had to steer our seven year old home. This is Street Entertainer’s second win of the season and he could well have a try over the larger obstacles at some point. Barton Stacey is likely to continue to mix hurdling and chasing although he will find things tougher off a higher handicap mark in the future but having already won three this summer we cannot complain! Bathwick Street made his hurdling debut on the night and he ran okay but got very tired from the second last. He will have learnt from this experience and hopefully there will be some improvement in him.
It was a great day at Newton Abbot on Saturday for their feature meeting of the year and we hosted several owners and friends on our box and had a very enjoyable afternoon. Sinndar’s Man made his racecourse debut in the juvenile hurdle and ran very well to finish second behind a useful sort. He was the only one in the field not to have run on the flat and ran very green until the penny dropped from about the third last. He jumped very well over the last few and despite coming off the bridle galloped all the way to the line. He will have learnt a lot from this and although the well-bred youngster may well want further in time we were all delighted with the debut. In the big handicap hurdle race Azza finished the best of my trio in fourth. She led until the second last but then tired as maybe the extra distance told. It was just great to see she suffered no ill-effects from her fall over fences last time and she will be heading back over the larger obstacles very soon. Massannie was just behind her in fifth and may have been a little closer after being hampered and Hawkhill was not far behind either in seventh. Houston Dynimo ran a cracker in the listed handicap chase. I claimed him from a Wetherby seller back in May and he won on his stable debut at Southwell over hurdles recently but this was another improved effort. He battled all the way to the line only losing out by a head in a photo finish. He picked up just over £8,500 in prize money and he delighted his owners who have only recently got involved in ownership. They involved in another youngster and from three runs they have already had two wins and a second – racing can make dreams come true and you don’t always have to pay big money. Shotavodka was the only slightly disappointing runner of the week but he has come back safe and sound and does probably want the ground a little softer so I am sure we will see him in better light once we have some rain. From the weekend it is great to get Tom Scu back in action. Fingers crossed he can continue the good run of form he was having before his enforced break.
It is Doncaster sales this week on Wednesday and Thursday. There is a selection of raced and unraced horses and I have been through the catalogue and so if anyone is interested in maybe purchasing a horse please give the office a ring on 01884 840715 and I would be delighted to discuss this with you.
Looking ahead to this week we look fairly quiet on the racing front. Franklin Roosevelt holds and entry at Southwell on Wednesday and we have a couple of entries of Sedgefield on Thursday but at this stage it looks unlikely we will make the journey up North. Entries close today for racing at the weekend but again things look quite quiet. Bathwick Street has an entry at Stratford on Saturday and Fontwell on Sunday while Purple N Gold also has an entry at Stratford. Keep checking Chester’s Daily Blog for more yard news through the week.
Justin Pipe
Away from the racing front, it was nice to welcome top darts player Justin Pipe (no relation!) to the yard. Justin, ‘The Force’ Pipe, is ranked number 17 in the World and lives locally in Taunton. He likes following the racing when he has time and we managed to get him on the equicisor! We enjoyed having him here and I look forward to going to watch him on the ockey sometime soon.
