I am just returning from a very few enjoyable days in the South of France with the family but I have been keeping up to date with all what has been going on and have been able to watch the action from Glorious Goodwood and the Galway Festival as well.
Which horse has won on the flat, over hurdles and over fences in the space of 100 days this year?! The answer is our very own Impulsive American and our four year old deserves a special mention for achieving this feat. He won his novice chase at Perth on Tuesday. Sadly his only rival departed at the third last fence but I think he was just getting on top at the time. This made it two from two over fences and he has been a little star since joining Pond House a little over 12 months ago. He also took up his engagement over hurdles the following day and ran another solid race to finish second to an improving type trained by Nicky Richards. He has definitely earned a nice little break before he runs again. He has now run 19 times for the yard and he has won two chases, twice on the flat and three times over hurdles in the last year. He has also been placed on another 10 occasions and has done connections extremely proud.
We only had two other runners last week at Worcester on Tuesday and they both ran with great credit to be placed. Lady of Longstone made her chasing debut and jumped well finishing third. Skylander jumped the last hurdle in front only to tire into third on the run-in but this was a return to form and hopefully his turn of winning will not be too far away.
While I was away I learned of the sad passing of JT McNamara and although personally I did not know him that well, all I can say is that he was a brilliant jockey and the way people of spoken of ‘the man JT’ both racing and the world in general is a much poorer place without him. Thoughts are with of course his wife Caroline, three children, family and friends at this sad time.
Jumping action is taking a break this week and the next action will not be until Stratford a week today. The work continues at home however and I am off to Doncaster Sales this week. My time away has given me a chance to go through the catalogue with a fine tooth comb and if anyone is interested in purchasing a horse please give me a ring on 01884 840715 for a no obligation chat.
