Owner William Frewen & the Prime Minister
Last week was fairly quiet for stable runners although we do have three at Cartmel this afternoon to kick things off this Bank Holiday Monday. Father Edward and Dauphine Ereine make their stable debuts while Ennistown is looking to build on his good third at Newton Abbot last time. All three are the mount of Tom Scu. Tomorrow we have one runner at Worcester, Nice Thoughts in the maiden hurdle. He was a good second at Ffos Las last time he ran and as actually gone up a few pounds in the handicap for standing in his stable since so hopefully he will prove worthy of his mark and run well. We then have a few entries at the various meetings later this week, Newton Abbot and Southwell on Wednesday, Sedgefield on Thursday and then at the weekend there is Stratford on Saturday and Fontwell on Sunday. There is one possible runner on the flat on Friday as well, Gabrial the Great at Ascot. Keep checking Chester’s Daily Chat for more news of our runners throughout the week.
The ‘winter’ horses are working away nicely on the gallops at home and last week was a busy time for owners visiting and seeing their horses in action. I do enjoy this time of year as there is lots going on behind the scenes and there is so much hope, expectation and excitement for the season ahead.
On Thursday we hosted a visited from Exeter racecourse. Dan Thompson, the General Manager at the track organised a staff day out which started with a visit to our stables. An enjoyable morning was had by all and it was nice to return a good deed as the track is always very good to us and our owners.
Exeter Racecourse Staff Visit
On Saturday my father and friend George Malde were lucky enough to go to Lords to watch the One Day Cricket International between England and Pakistan. They were kindly invited by Peter deal and enjoyed a good day, especially with England winning! I was watching the action from the comfort of my sofa only to spot another Pond House owner in the crowd – William Frewen! Not only did I catch a glimpse of him but he was only sat next to a rather important person, the Prime Minister – Theresa May! Just to make doubly sure I rewound the action and took a photo of the TV screen to make sure I had really seen it!
Away from the racing this week I have a trip to France planned to have a look at a few horses that might be for sale. It is always interesting to go and see how things are done differently over there as you never stop learning and you can nearly always pick up something new!
