Racing can ill afford to lose good men like Dai, and while everyone is finding it challenging during this current economic downturn, it does seem harsh that Ffos Las should lose out to such an extent.  While I support the BHA initiative to cap the number of fixtures, I believe the cuts should come more evenly and I would be fascinated to know how many meetings will be lost elsewhere.  Ffos Las is an excellent facility – it is a lovely fair track and the facilities to Racegoers are well up to scratch, indeed it would serve as a very good example to a number of other racecourses in Britain – none of which share the same uncertainty over their futures.

Sadly, Willy Twiston-Davies is certain of his future…at least in the short term.  Unfortunately the sixteen year old conditional jockey broke his left ankle in a fall from the Bob Buckler trained Ballygulleen at Worcester on Wednesday and he faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.  This was only his second ride back since recovering from a fall that resulted in him breaking his right leg.  Hopefully Willy will make a speedy recovery and his luck will take a turn for the better.

Conor_OFarrell_Buena_Vista_reviewOn the subject of conditional jockeys, I am pleased to bring you the final instalment of our recent series of interviews with SIS presenter Mike Vince.  Mike was speaking with Pond House conditional Conor O’Farrell about his hopes and aspirations for the season ahead.  You can hear the interview by clicking below:

Looking at the week ahead we have made a number of entries for Hereford on Wednesday, Newton Abbot on Thursday, Stratford on Saturday and Fontwell on Sunday – for the very latest on the stable runners, take a look at Chester’s daily chat.  Further ahead, we made an entry for our Summer Plate winner Qulinton in the Kerry National in Ireland on 14th September – we will take a look at the race and make a decision nearer the time.  The lads that own him enjoy a bit of craic so I certainly wouldn’t rule out a trip to the Emerald Isle!
