Stray Bullet: For Sale!

After a very dry June, July has been a very wet month – typical British weather! We have already had over 100mm of rain fall this month with more set to come this week before we move into August.  Last year just 24mm fell in the whole of July but we are back to on a par of 2021 when we recorded 109mm in the 31 days of July.  Over the weekend a lot of sporting action was disrupted, race meetings were lost and the Aussies retained the Ashes due to the great British weather causing minimal play in the fourth test on Saturday and no play on Sunday which resulted the match ending in a draw.  Australia lad the Ashes 2-1 with just one Test to go which means even an England win will now not be enough to win the series.  It is such a shame it has been decided in this way, especially as England were in a great position to win the latest match at Old Trafford and it would have set up a spectacular finale for the fifth test. These are the rules however so there is not much we can do about it!

Portugal

I am currently enjoying some welcome sunshine in the Algarve while they have been keeping me informed how lovely and damp it is back at home!  It is hot but not too hot like a lot of Europe thankfully and the whole family is having an enjoyable time.  We are due home later this week.

Work Continues

The work continues back at home and our tack room renovations are going well, with new doors and windows fitted over the weekend.  This week the diggers are in to lift up our woodchip walk way which the horses use to get to the gallops.  It is another job that needed doing with new membrane laid and new woodchip put on.  It should be nearly finished by the time I return!

Recent Runners

We have had very few runners since last writing but Myristica ran a good race in the Summer hurdle at Market Rasen over the weekend.  She held everything chance of winning as they jumped over the last but just faded a little inside the final furlong to finish fourth.  While she handled the soft going, Jack thought it did hinder her in the final stages.  She held her own well and there will be plenty more races to be won with her both over hurdles and on the flat going forwards.

This Week

We are again looking fairly quiet on the runner’s front as we look ahead to the rest of this week.  Our next possible runners are on Thursday where Jet Smart has an entry over fences at Worcester and Lady Reset has a flat entry at Sandown.  Jet Smart was second on chasing debut at Worcester last time so hopefully he can back that up if he runs there this week.  Lady Reset is not quite in the form of old at present but she is going as well as ever at home so with the handicapper relenting a little I am sure she can be back winning again.  Are only other entries are then at Uttoxeter on Sunday so keep checking back for the latest information on the Daily News.

Stray Bullet

We have a gorgeous grey three year old gelding looking for an owner!  Stray Bullet is twice a winner in France on the flat and placed second twice as well from just seven starts he arrived last week and is settling in well.  He is showing us a good attitude, has taken to jumping extremely well and is ready to run in juvenile hurdle races very soon.  He is a great fun dual purpose horse who will give you action straight away all for the bargain price of 15,000 Euros!
