Chemical Warfare
       Eight Time Winner This Season

Despite not having a winner in the last few days and I am delighted to have reached 50 winners for the season!  How you may ask, well…. Chemical Warfare now has an incredible eight wins to his name for the season.  We thought his win at Sedgefield the other day was his seventh, our 49th, but rather by accident, no one official has told us, we have discovered that he has been awarded a race that he actually finished runner-up in because the winner has been disqualified!  It is quite fitting that he should be our 50th winner has he has been a flag bearer for the yard at his level for a twelve month period which is a testament to both him and to us for keeping him in such good form for the whole year.

I find it disappointing that no officials have been in contact with either me or his owners about the situation.  Only when looking at the trainer’s table on Saturday did we discover we were on 50 winners (we were on 49 after Chemical Warfare winning at Sedgefield) so it can have only been in the last few days.  On then trying to work out if it was a printing error or where the extra winner had come from did we notice Chemical Warfare had eight wins to his name and so looking at his form further you can see that originally he finished second at Uttoxter on 26th July last year but the winner has now been disqualified having tested positive for a banned substance.  This is a first for us, to be awarded a race but we just cannot believe it has taken this long to be sorted out!

Anyway, it is great to have reached the 50-winner milestone for the season having narrowly missed out last time so thanks must go to all the owners for supporting me and to my staff for helping to make this happen.  I believe Chemical Warfare has the most wins to his name for a jumps horse this season in the country and it really is a wonderful achievement.

Last week

Ocean Heights ran with credit again on the all-weather at Kempton to a very close fifth.  He is gradually working himself back to form with some help from the handicapper and I am sure his winning turn is not too far away.  Shot Boii ran well to be fourth at Ffos Las on Wednesday evening.  Fergus Gillard gave him a positive ride and although he lost his position turning out of the back straight the final time he rallied all the way up the straight and only just missed out on snatching third place.  River Run Free was disappointing but Eton Mes made a pleasing enough stable debut in the bumper at Ffos Las.  He ran a little green when the pace quickened 4 furlong out on ground that was quicker than ideal but once the penny dropped and Jack asked him for his effort, he was doing all his best work at the end and hit the line strongly, closing on those in front of him quite rapidly to finish fifth.  He is a lovely big four year old and one very much to look forward to novice hurdling in the autumn.

We have now has some rain but it has been localised and not everywhere has had it.  We also need a lot of rain to really have an effect on the ground after such a long dry spell so we are still being selective over our runners.  Keep checking the Daily News on the website for the latest news on the stable runners.  Sirekoff is likely to be our final runner of the season at Bangor on Thursday.

Season Finale

We are in the final week of the 2024-25 National Hunt season with the finale at Sandown on Saturday.  Their going is currently described as good, good to firm in places so they will be hoping to catch some more rain before the weekend.  The battle for the trainers title looks set to go down to the wire between Willie Mullins and Dan Skelton so it promises to be a fascinating few days with still plenty of prize money on offer this week but I suspect it will ultimately come down to Sandown on Saturday.

Pointing News

Rian Corcoran rode his 20th winner of the season at Flete on Saturday and is in action at Trebudannon on Easter Monday.  We head to Cothelstone on the same day with Royal Defender to run in the Restricted.  This coming weekend the action comes locally from the Axe Vale point to point at Stafford Cross and Sidi Ismael could line up in either the novice riders race or the mixed open.

Foal Update

Lady Reset’s foal by Golden Horn is now a week old and has enjoyed going out in the paddock with mum this week.  He is doing well and it was great to get some nice photos from Ashbrittle Stud.  They have nicknamed him ‘Freddie’ and we look forward to following his journey.

HORSE FOR SALE/NEW SYNDICATE OPPORTUNITY

RED WINE SUPERNOVA (IRE)

4yo Bay Filly by Kingston Hill.  She is a half-sister to Moroder, an eight-time winner in the UK, who recently won the valuable Grimthorpe Chase at Doncaster for a second time.

Red Wine Supernova has had just the one run in an Irish point to point and was travelling like the winner before unfortunately falling at the second last fence at Monksgrange on 30th March 2025.  She has been bought privately by Tom Malone, from trainer Colin Bowe who we have done very well with horses from him in the past.  Colin is very sweet on her and jockey Barry O’Neill loved her attitude.

The Irish Point to point website said the following;

Making progress to dispute the lead before halfway, this Kingston Hill bay had still yet to be asked a question when crashing out at the penultimate obstacle.

You can watch the video of her race here:

(She Wears Black with Green Cap)

She has been fully vetted and is fine since that fall and will be over from Ireland very shortly.  We are looking for eight shares at a cost of £12,200 + VAT per share to cover the purchase of the horse (and all associated costs, vetting, agents fee & transport from Ireland) and then to include all training fees up until the end of October 2025.
