Indulto Rouge & James Shaw on the Gallops

It was relatively quiet for the stable on the runners front last week and October Hill was best of those who ran, finishing second in the mares maiden hurdle at Ludlow has Thursday.  We dropped her back in trip after not appearing to stay three miles on her penultimate run and it nearly worked as she fended off all her rivals bar one!  In truth, she probably wants 2m4f round a track like Ludlow but it was still a good effort.  She is a tough and consistent mare and I am sure we can find her a winning opportunity next time.  She prefers better ground and so will be out again soon while the weather stays dry.  There are still shares available in her and if you want to get involved in a small friendly syndicate that doesn’t break the bank please do get in touch!  She has been placed on four of her five starts for us picking up over £6,000 in prize money along the way and so is likely to continue to pay her way and she will jump a fence one day as well.

Show Your Hand showed up well for a long way in the valuable Goffs bumper at Newbury but weakened in the last three furlongs.  He is a nice four year old who shows ability and a nice attitude at home and is one to look forward to in novice hurdles in the autumn.  King Turgeon did one thing I thought he would not do and that was fall!  He rather breasted a fence mid-way down the far side at Newbury and both he and Jack Tudor had a heavy tumble.  While Jack is okay, King Turgeon is a bit stiff and sore and will be having some treatment from the physio this week.  Bashful Boy and Green Sky ran on the flat and ran respectably picking up a bit of prize money along the way while Penn Avenue didn’t enjoy her trip to Carlisle and we know she is better than that.

This Week

Our first runners this week come at Southwell on Tuesday, we have two runners there, Indulto Rouge and Purple Owl.  Indulto Rouge runs in the bumper and it is his first start since wind surgery.  He ran well enough at Hereford on debut but then he was caught out in a tough race at Ascot on soft going.  He will appreciate the return to better ground and he goes nicely at home so if the wind op has done the trick then he should have a good chance.

Purple Owl runs in the 2m4f handicap hurdle and it is also his first run since a wind op as well.  He has shown plenty of form in novice events and can be forgiven his last start at Wincanton when the ground was atrocious and racing should probably not have been on!  He goes nicely at home and he has a good each way chance.

On Wednesday we run Best Night at Hereford and she is looking to follow up her win from Huntingdon last time.  It looks a suitable opportunity for her and fingers crossed she can run well again in the colours of the David Pipe Racing Club.

Later in the week we have entries at Chepstow on Thursday, Wetherby and Friday and at Stratford, Uttoxeter and Ascot over the weekend so keep checking the Daily News on the website for all the latest news on the stable runners.

While I have been enjoying the nice warm sunshine we have had in recent days, a little rain in the coming days would be most welcome!  The ground has been drying out fairly quickly of late and while that is good for those horses who prefer the better ground, with some big race meetings and Aintree coming up I would rather some natural help from above rather than the tracks having to water too much.  We are due bits and pieces of rain this week so fingers crossed we get some.

Point to Point News

We ran Ben Lilly at Kilworthy point to point on Sunday with Mia Holmes on board and unfortunately Mia was unseated during the race but both horse and jockey returned home none the worse for the experience and are all okay.  We have Ben Lilly entered again at Trebudannon in Cornwall on Sunday and if he goes there Ashley Dascombe will ride this time.  Well done to our other amateur James Shaw who rode his first winner of the season at Milborne St Andrew on Saturday.  He followed that with three seconds at Kilworthy on Sunday and so is riding well and hopefully can kick on with further winners this season.

Rian Corcoran

Many of you may have noticed that Rian Corcoran is not riding at the moment.  He is currently on serving a seven day suspension for whip ban he picked up when riding a winner up at Newcastle earlier this month.  He is on the nineteen winner mark for his career so he only has one more winner left before he loses is seven pound claim.  He has a terrific first season as a professional and hopefully he will finish it in the same manner on his return.  He has aspirations of being Champion conditional next year so we will be looking forward to supporting him in his quest.
