MCP Presenting the Prize to Willie Mullins at Cheltenham

Today there is just one meeting, a jumps card at Carlisle.  Ffos Las was also scheduled to be today as well but was abandoned on Friday due to water logging.  Carlisle is a stiff track at the best of times but when they give the ground as heavy it probably means they will nearly be walking up the very stiff finish!  David does not have any runners but I see jockey Conor O'Farrell has gone up there for one ride for Brian Ellison.  You might have thought once Ffos Las was called off they might have but an all-weather meeting on instead but I guess it is quite nice to have a quieter day after such a busy but fantastic week.

I loved seeing Gold Cup winner Coneygree eating out of the Gold Cup trophy at the Bradstock yard yesterday on the Morning Line.  You would not have thought that the horse had won the Gold Cup the previous day, he was so relaxed.  It is great for such a small yard to win the biggest race.  I see the racing Post have Coneygree on a rating of 178, the highest mark ever achieved by a novice.

Looking back at the Cheltenham Festivals over the years I see that MCP gave AP 11 winners and he rode 9 for JP McManus.  Great memories and we will miss him.  There was a great message displayed around Cheltenham yesterday and I captured it below.

There are some good football matches today.  We have Chelsea versus Southampton and Man Utd v Tottenham.  The seocnd match should be a cracker as neither team can defend!  I am not a United fan but 20/21 might be of interest, surely they have not gone back that far?!

I see that England cricket captain Eoin Morgan is keen to stay on as captain.  England finished fifth their group, just above Afghanistan and Scotland.  His lack of runs has been one of the biggest reasons England were so bad.  I don't know about captain, surely his performances with the bat means he should not play again, let alone be captain?!  Alistair Cook was better than people thought.  Have a nice day.
