Following Aintree's spectacular three day meeting, it is like after the Lord Mayor's show today with just two meetings over the sticks at Ffos Las and Market Rasen.  The stable runs Top Wood and Vif Argent at Ffos Las with Tom Scu aboard Top Wood and Kieron Edgar back aboard last time out winner Vif Argent.  Meanwhile there is a good flat fixture in Ireland at Leopardstown and unsurprisingly with a Listed race and two Group 3's on the card quite a few of our top jockeys have made their way over there.

Looking back at Aintree, I did take a look at the tribute wall to outgoing champion jockey A P McCoy.  It was a massive white board that was filled with messages from well-wishers by the end of the first day.  I doubt whether such a tribute will ever made to another jockey like that again.

The next big meeting takes place at the weekend and it is the turn of the Scot's to host their own Grand National at Ayr.  I see that David has one of the ante-post favourites for the big race in Broadway Buffalo who narrowly missed the cut for the Aintree version yesterday.  With Punchestown and Sandown to come, there is still plenty of high quality action to look forward to before the end of the season.  I'm not sure if David is going to Punchestown for the racing or the Guinness!  It is more like a party than a race meeting at Punchestown and it is something you should experience at least once (although you will probably not remember an awful lot about it!).

There is a fantastic football match to look forward to this afternoon as Manchester United take on Manchester City in a local derby.  It would seem that United have drawn City at just the right time to get a result and the 17/10 about United looks tempting...sorry Tony!

I will most definitely be fixed firmly to my armchair this afternoon - not only is there the Manchester derby to look forward to, there is the small matter of the US Masters...does it get any better than that?

Finally, a thought for the day...what is worse than finding a maggot in your apple?  Finding half a maggot!  Have a nice weekend....
