There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Brighton and Catterick and jumps action from Fakenham, Sedgefield and Exeter. The stable has two runners at Exeter; Weather Babe and Houston Dynimo (pictured above) in the 7.20pm race - both have won on fast ground so the prevailing conditions should suit, although how fast it is going to be is questionable looking at the amount of rain coming down this morning. Not only that, it was so misty when I came past the course en route to the yard this morning that you could barely see more than 25 yards in front of you. If I had to have a bet tonight I would probably plump for Weather Babe, owned by stable sponsor Wayne Clifford - you never know, I may get a discount on my tyres!
My Brother Sylvest was only beaten a length at Kempton in a valuable handicap yesterday, while Good Value finished second at Warwick. This was a step in the right direction and he should be capable of winning something similar before long. Multimedia also produced his best effort to date when finishing third at 33/1 in the 3m1f handicap hurdle - he is another who can be found something similar judged on this effort, maybe over a slightly shorter trip?

Let's hope that footballing legend Jimmy Greaves is going to be okay. He has suffered a severe stroke and is currently in intensive care. I went to his 75th birthday party bash in Stevenage with Martin only a couple of months ago and he was in great form then - it is worrying how fast things can change. We are all thinking of you Jimmy.

What a great finish to the final of the Snooker World Championships last night as Stuart Bingham beat Shaun Murphy 18-15 in one of the best finals I have ever seen. At the age of 38 Bingham was becoming the third oldest champion since the tournament was moved to the Crucible Theatre in 1977.

I have to say that I agree with former Australian spin bowler Shane Warne who said "Are the captain and coach on the same planet as everybody else?" England captain Alistair Cook says that his team had a good tour but if they go to Australia and perform like that, they will be slaughtered. Not only that, you know they are going to love boasting about it!

I was watching Arsenal as they beat Hull 3-1 last night and they look like a sound team. In fact, they could be Chelsea's biggest rivals next season. All they need is a hard man in midfield and they could be serious challengers for Premier League glory next season.
There is a good match on tonight between Juventus and Real Madrid tonight live on ITV at 7.45pm...that will please Mrs Barnes! Next season ITV should only take the Champions League later stages if a British team is still in contention. I can't see tonight's match drawing in huge viewing audiences and they must have paid a fortune for the rights to show it.

Finally, did you know that one in twenty people have an extra rib? I will always have a full rack anyway...
