Following the success of Weather Babe at Exeter on Wednesday night, the stable maintained it's good form with the success of Mozo in the bumper at Uttoxeter last night. Indeed, our daughter of Milan was a ready winner on her racecourse debut under Tom Scudamore, coming home five lengths clear of the remainder. She can only improve for the experience and appears to have a bright future.
There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps meetings from Newton Abbot, Worcester, Wincanton and Carlisle as well as top-class action on the level from Chester. It looks like another victory for race planning (not!). The stable has two runners at Worcester; Vif Argent and The Darling Boy and they are both partnered by Tom Scu. Vif Argent (pictured right) takes a drop in class into selling company having won a handicap hurdle at Newbury on his penultimate start. He certainly has the form to win a race of this nature and should go very close. Meanwhile, The Darling Boy makes his first start over fences since 2012 - he was a better chaser than hurdler back then and as he has won twice over timber since joining us at Pond House, let's hope that is still the case! He seems to handle any sort of ground and should give a good account once again.
Readers of yesterday's column were told to follow Dr Marwan Koukash at Chester and while the lucky owner did not win the big race, the system yielded a 10/1 winner when Lexi's Hero won the 5f sprint. Talking of yesterday's action, Timmy Murphy was forced to delay the start of his new career as a flat jockey when Brighton had to abandon their card half way through the meeting due to high winds - his next booked ride is at Thirsk on Saturday. I'm not sure if somebody is trying to tell him something!
I was in the fish and chip restaurant in Brixham yesterday when I had a phone call from A P McCoy to tell me that he had just been measured up for a new set of Ping golf clubs before he flies off to Bermuda today. I have an old set of clubs, so I might head to the "Pitch 'n Putt" at the Palace Hotel in Torquay today! It's a tough life being retired.
I was saddened to see that racing fan and Hot Chocolate front man Errol Brown had passed away at the age of 71 after battling with cancer. He had some good horses down the years, most notably Gainsay with Jenny Pitman. I think he must have looked to me for inspiration for some of his songs...I am thinking 'So You Win Again' and 'Everyone's A Winner'. I was also going to include 'You Sexy Thing' but Mrs Barnes has just burst out laughing!
What a sickener for punter Gary Walters who was onto a good thing until his seven year old son intervened. Young Archie cashed out his dad's bets online and received £7 - all thirteen of his father's selections proceeded to win and would have landed him the cool sum of £49,435.34! Gary says that he cannot wait for his boy to grow up so he can explain exactly what he has done!

Did you know, female ants do all of the work? I would like to know, what is wrong with that?!
