The stable enjoyed a good day at Perth yesterday when Street Entertainer ran out the ready winner of the feature handicap hurdle under Tom Scudamore. Our eight year old handled the soft ground very well indeed to prevail by 4 1/2 lengths from Gordon Elliott's favourite Seeyouallincoppers. He picked up over £9,000 in prize money so the long trip proved well worthwhile and provided Scottish owners Josie and Sean Tracey with a nice local winner. I wonder if Sean was celebrating last night? That really is a silly question! Anyway, I read a great statistic that somebody posted on Twitter yesterday - apparently when David and Tom have teamed up at Perth, they have had six consecutive winners, not bad going at all!
Onto today's business and there are five meetings taking place with flat fixtures from York, Newbury, Newmarket and Hamilton as well as a jumps card from Aintree. Although the stable does not have any runners this afternoon, Tom Scudamore goes to Aintree for a couple of rides. Meanwhile the big race of the day is the Group 2 Yorkshire Cup at York and has been won by some quality stayers down the years. This year's renewal seems to have cut up a bit but I would imagine there would be an extremely popular winner of former England footballer Michael Owen's Brown Panther could prevail.
There was a very impressive winner of the Dante at York yesterday. As I said yesterday, it has long been the most informative Derby Trial around and it produced a very good winner in the shape of John Gosden's Gold Horn. The irony is that he is not even entered at Epsom at this stage and connections will have to fork out a cool £75,000 if they want him to take his chance. If he does run he looks likely to take plenty of beating - this is certainly the best middle distance piece of form on offer this season and while he is not guaranteed to get 1m4f on pedigree, he wasn't stopping in the closing stages yesterday and he looks the type to handle the unusual characteristics of Epsom. He won £90,000 yesterday as he beat stablemate Jack Hobbs, so that has paid for his entry - it's a no-brainer as far as I am concerned. Aidan O'Brien must be a little concerned as both of his runners finished well beaten and I wouldn't be surprised if there was a little problem at Ballydoyle.

I nicked a few quid yesterday backing Wycombe to see off Plymouth in the return leg of their play-off football match and they duly obliged 2-1. Tonight it is the turn of Middlesbrough and Brentford - I think I may have a few quid on Middlesbrough at even money as they have only lost one of their last twenty home games.

Poor old Andy Murray didn't play in Rome yesterday due to fatigue - remember, the British number one tennis player has played in back-to-back tournaments and has recently got married. It must be terrible for him and we should ask his bride to go a little easier on him in future, especially with Wimbledon just around the corner! Do these people live in the real world?

I read a quote from Joey Barton yesterday which just about sums him up in a nutshell. Talking about Liverpool and England legend Steven Gerrard he said, "he has achieved so much, one of his biggest achievements in my eyes which often goes under the radar is having the same haircut for so long". No mention of his outstanding career...nice one Joey!
Apparently there is not going to be an end of season dinner at Newcastle this year so you could say that the carvery* is off!
*For those of you who are not football fans, I will explain that John Carver is the current incumbent manager at Newcastle, although I do not fancy his chances of keeping the job much longer! Have a nice day...
