Today we have four meetings taking place with three flat cards from Ripon, Brighton and Wolverhampton as well as a jumps fixture from Southwell.  The three meetings from Brighton, Wolverhampton and Southwell do not total £100,000 in prize money for their twenty-two races - as far as I am concerned they should be ashamed of themselves.  Top jockeys Tom Scudamore, Sam Twiston-Davies, Richard Johnson and Brian Hughes are all at Southwell where the prize money for the last race is worth £1559.52 to the winner - okay, that is my rant over for this morning!  The stable has no runners this afternoon.

When we were in France last week we paid a visit to the stables of trainer Guillaume Macaire at Royan.  The yard is only four years old and is a fantastic operation where they currently have over one hundred horses in training.  The fences and hurdles are in the middle of the racecourse.  While we were there we also met French champion jockey Vincent Cheminaud - he was a very nice lad and extremely helpful.

Can you believe the weather at Headingley for the second Test cricket match between England and New Zealand?  It looked more a day in November!  The rain could actually get England out of a spot of bother and what a good game captain Alistair Cook will have had.  Bookmakers are trying to generate some interest by offering 4/5 that Lyth is the next batsman out - they certainly do come up with some weird and wonderful bets!

Talking of cricket, I see that West Indian Chris Gayle has said, "I think I will be in bed all day, outside looking nippy" - it doesn't look as though we will be getting any gayles today!

I was fascinated to learn that 90% of all European Tour golfers say that they have seen their playing partners cheat.  They also say that 60% of them use recreational drugs.  If this is the case then the governing body's random drug testing procedures are clearly not working.  If you see another player cheating, it is your job to report them - this is the only way that the sport is going to get cleared up.

One man who certainly wasn't cheating was American Jonathan Moore who took thirteen shots at the 13th hole in the Irish Open.  At least you know now that you are not the only one who loses four balls on a single hole!

Did you know that tongue is the strongest muscle in the human body?  I have certainly been on the receiving end of a few tongue lashings - especially in my younger days!  Have a nice day...
