There is plenty of action to keep us entertained this afternoon with eight meetings up and down the country with flat fixtures from York, Musselburgh, Sandown, Chester, Perth, Leicester and Lingfield as well as one jumps card from Hexham.  Sadly if you want to see any National Hunt racing the majority of the country are facing a fair old journey.  Unsurprisingly the stable has no runners today and stable jockey Tom Scudamore also takes the day off.

Don't forget to watch Channel 4 this evening as there is what looks to be a fascinating racing documentary on called "The Trainer and the Racehorse: The Legend of Frankel".  It is about Sir Henry Cecil and the build-up to Royal Ascot.  I was lucky enough to stay at Warren Place with MCP and it is an experience I will never forget.

It is Peter Scudamore's birthday today.  The former eight times champion jockey is 57 today and I was lucky enough to have some laughs with him down the years.  Dear old Peter (pictured above, right) - his idea of excitement is having an After 8 mint at 7.30pm!  Many happy returns Scu...

Flat trainer Mark Johnston breaks new ground today when he saddles his first runners in Germany.  He trains Leaderene at Dresden today, his colt won by six lengths at Newmarket last time out and he looks up to winning this 1m2f Listed contest.  If the prize money is right, why not travel abroad...just ask David!

England managed to lose the latest one day match to New Zealand by 13 runs courtesy of a Duckworth Lewis result.  It looked like a batsman's paradise with the batsmen proving much better than the bowlers.  Ross Taylor scored an unbeaten 119 off of 96 balls and I have to hand it to both teams, it was an exciting match.

There is a Euro 2016 qualifier on tonight between Ireland and Scotland at 5pm on Sky Sports and the Jocks are 5/2 shots to get a result.  You can also back them at 11/8 draw no bet (that is 11/8 about the win and your money back if the result is a draw) and these look like a couple tempting prices to me.

If I were a Spurs supporter and they sold their talisman Harry Kane I would not be in any hurry to renew my season ticket.  Manchester United are showing an interest in the Spurs striker who scored 31 goals last season.  I'm sorry but you do not sell your best players...just ask Liverpool!

Another fascinating fact for you to be going on your way today - did you know that King George I of England could not speak English?  True story...
