There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with action on the flat coming from Ayr, Ripon and Windsor and a jumps card from Worcester.  The stable runs former Irish point-to-point winner Dusk Till Dawn (pictured above) in the bumper at 3.20pm at Worcester.  Our six year old won easily at the beginning of the year on soft ground, scoring by sixteen lengths and he has pleased the boss at home so we are hopeful of a good run from him.  It will be great to see the colours of Michael Poland being carried by a runner from the yard - he famously owned the sire of Dusk Till Dawn, 1994 Derby runner-up King's Theatre during his two year old career.  Our other runner comes at Windsor this evening when Beijing Star runs in the 6.55pm race - he will be partnered by former Midlands National winning jockey Mikey Ennis.  Four miles at Uttoxeter to 1m2f at Windsor, Mikey is nothing if not versatile!

Many happy returns to box driver Bob Hodge who is 46 today.  During a past life Bob was a conditional jockey for Mary Reveley and rode some great horses including the likes of Melottie, Cab On Target and Bonanza.  Bob has mentioned it once or twice down the years...does anyone remember that far back?!

Happy birthday too to owner Stuart Mercer who celebrates his 73rd birthday today.  Stuart has been one of our longest serving owners down the years and has had some great horses at Pond House including the likes of Lemons Mill and Indian Jockey.  He is equally well remembered for his colourful shirts!  We hope you have a great day.

I see there has been plenty of money around for Silvestre de Sousa to lift his first jockeys championship and he is now as short as 2/1 in places.  Alternatively you could try to buy some money on Ryan Moore at 4/6 as he is still six winners ahead.

Week two of Wimbledon starts today and there is still British interest as Andy Murray is 1/12 to beat Ivo Karlovic.  It looks as though Murray is playing as well as he has ever done and looks a good thing to make it to the final (even allowing for the fact that Roger Federer is in his half of the draw).  Karlovic is 11/8 with Hills to win a set and that could prove tempting as the Croatian has a very big serve.

Although it was supposedly one of the more exciting races of the season, the British Grand Prix was nonetheless boringly predictable with Lewis Hamilton leading home a Mercedes 1-2.  The Mercedes is clearly the class of the field and just illustrates my point that all the cars should be identical leaving the difference to made by the drivers.

The USA hammered Japan in the final of the Women's Football World Cup with England finishing third after beating Germany 1-0 in extra time in their play-off.  One paper said that they would be remembered alongside the heroes of the 1966 World Cup!  Talk about rubbish...how can they be compare alongside the likes of Moore, Hurst and Peters?  Leave it out!

Did you know that tricksters dressed as clowns are ripping off parents by charging £5 each for a balloon at West Country carnivals...talk about inflated prices!  Have a nice day...
