We have four flat meetings to look forward to this afternoon at Ffos Las, Musselburgh, Chelmsford City and Wetherby. It looks as though Chelmsford are reaping the benefits of re-waxing their surface as they have seventy-five runners at their meeting this evening, while they also have an impressive £80,000 in prize money up for grabs. A good effort all round from them and the other tracks should certainly take note.
The headlines in today's Racing Post warns of a terrible shortage of stable staff in racing. There are millions of people out of work, yet trainers are struggling to find any stable staff. You don't have to be a midget to word and ride out in a National Hunt yard and while you work hard, it is an exciting environment in which to be. David has been quite fortunate that many of his staff have been with us for years but even he has a couple of vacancies currently advertised. If you are interested in joining the famous Pond House team, click here for further information on the opportunities available.
Many happy returns to stable sponsor Wayne Clifford. I won't tell you how old he is, although the fire brigade were standing by owing to the amount of candles on his cake. He shares a birthday with Gino Paletta - Gino has been involved in a number of horses in the yard down the years and is a part-owner of The New One. He & his lovely wife Jeanette play host to us every year during the Grand National meeting. Happy birthday to you both.

Zach Johnson won the Open Golf yesterday at St Andrews. He was a 125/1 shot at the beginning of the week and you could still get 33/1 going into the final round. No more Peter Alliss next year as Sky take over the coverage. At least they will show all of the golf and you won't have to listen to Alliss' terrible stories. Yesterday he was telling us how 'A man drowned in a bowl of muesli when a current pulled him in!' Seriously, where does he get these terrible jokes from? They are worse than mine!

Sepp Blatter walked out of a press conference yesterday after comedian Lee Nelson walked up to the podium and threw a fistful of cash over him. The trouble was that the notes were fake and Blatter had spotted that before they had even hit the ground! The sooner he has nothing to do with football the better.

England's top order batsmen could be taking a holiday by the time the third Ashes Test match comes around. The trouble is, who do we have to replace them? Surely Adam Lyth and Ian Bell or is it more to do with the old school tie? What is wrong with Kevin Pietersen, or am I just being daft?

95% of putts which finish short don't go in...no more Peter Alliss stories please!
