Prince of Poets leads the string
down the gallops
Today we have six meetings, flat cards at Newbury, Ripon, Newmarket, Doncaster and Lingfield plus a jumps card at Market Rasen this evening. David has three runs at the Lincolnshire track tonight. Standing Ovation runs over hurdles and is on the comeback trail. He is better know as a chaser having won four times over the larger obstacles but he is still an novice over hurdles and after a fall of the National fences in April it will hopefully be a good confidence boost. A Hairy Koala has run some sound races without winning. He was second over this trip on his penultimate start at Exeter and he should run okay with blinkers back on today. Prince of Poets is a bumper winner who has run okay in two hurdle starts, hopefully he will be thereabouts. There is some after racing entertainment in the form of the legendary Tom Jones this evening, it should be a good night if you are going,
Someone has made a good point in today's Racing Post. How are pacemakers allowed to run in any race? I thought that every horse has to run on its merits and achieve the best possible finish. Surely that is not the case for a pacemaker?! I wonder what the official opinion is on this type of horse? Basically it is not in the race to win.
Man United managed to win 1-0 at Aston Villa last night. Mind you, I suppose it is the sign of a good team that they look rubbish and still win. I can't see them winning the league. I thought they were lucky not to give a penalty away for all the holding they did in the penalty area!
There look to be some good football bets. My team, West Ham are 13/10 to beat Leicester, Spurs 5/6, Swansea evens, Southampton evens. These should give me some interest. The early kick-off game is Southampton versus Everton at 12.45pm.
Jordan Spieth shot a fine 67 and is now 6 under and is within touching distance of the leaders in the golf. Rory McIlroy shot 71. It is a course with narrow fairways and thousands of bunkers, you have to keep the ball straight.
Why did the cleaning lady quit, because grime doesn't pay! Have a nice day.
