It was a good weekend for the stable with a couple of winners at Market Rasen on Saturday and Southwell on Sunday. Standing Ovation (pictured above) was the ready winner of Market Rasen's novices' hurdle, bolting up by an easy thirteen lengths and judging by this performance he should have little trouble winning again over timber before reverting to the larger obstacles. Kalifourchon won the handicap hurdle at Southwell a shade cosily and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him turning out again under a penalty before the bad man can have his say!
Today there are just four flat cards at Thirsk, Kempton, Chelmsford and at Windsor and unsurprisingly the stable does not have any runners.
Looking ahead to tomorrow I see that there is a £17,500 race at Chelmsford City and only two horses have been declared. What good does this do racing unless your name is Sir Mark Prescott or Nick Littmoden? As far as I am concerned they should introduce a rule to stop races like this going ahead...the sponsors will not be getting much value for their money and the sport cannot afford to lose it's supporters.

There was a fascinating Premier League match yesterday between Manchester City and Chelsea with City winning 3-0. They looked different class and Chelsea are clearly in need of some new players to freshen up the team. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is clearly losing the plot as he said that the winning margin was scoreline was fake - I have to say I do agree with him...it should have been at least 5 or 6 to City!
Meanwhile Sunderland look like bankers to go down as they lost 3-1 at home to Norwich City on Saturday. The fans were leaving a long time before the final whistle and it doesn't look as though they will have much to cheer about this season. Arsenal were 2-1 winners at Crystal Palace although they were very lucky to not have Francis Coquelin sent off. Any other referee would have sent him walking - did Arsene Wenger not see it?!

Andy Murray beat Novak Djokovic in the Rogers Cup at the weekend and has now moved up to the world number two spot. Mind you, the next major is the US Open and it is there that he is going to need to play his very best tennis.

Finally, a thought for the day...what do you get if you cross a computer programmer with an athlete? A diskus thrower! Have a nice day...
