There are four flat cards this afternoon from York, Sandown, Salisbury and Wolverhampton as well as a jumps fixture at Bangor. Although David doesn't have any runners over the sticks today, he does have a runner on the level as Street Entertainer takes in the concluding 1m6f handicap at Salisbury this evening at 8.05pm. Our consistent and versatile eight year old was third over this trip at Nottingham last time and he should give his running once again although this does look very competitive for the grade. Mikey Ennis, who won the Midlands National for us a couple of years ago is in the saddle this evening.
It is day three of York's Ebor meeting and there is a truly International feel to the card today with American challenger Acapulco taking in the Nunthorpe Sprint. The two year old won at Royal Ascot in good style although she did manage to get beaten in a dirt maiden in her home land on her debut. She doesn't have the physique of your average two year old (she towered over her rivals at Ascot) and she receives 24lbs and upwards from her rivals due to her age and sex allowances and on that basis she should take the world of beating. Even so, this ground will be a good bit slower and I'm not sure I would want to be taking 5/2 in this twenty runner race.
I see that it is owner William Frewen's 56th birthday today. William is a tremendous character and he has had some good horses at Pond House down the years, most notably that very popular staying hurdler Lough Derg. I was going to say that William doesn't look 56 but in fairness, he does! I wouldn't be at all surprised if he were at the cricket today for the final Ashes Test. Many happy returns William, we hope you have a great day.
As David reported in his blog on Monday, the Post have got hold of the news that Brian Toomey has started work at the stable. He is trying to rebuild his riding career after a horrific fall at Perth a couple of years ago during which his heart stopped for six seconds. His recovery has confounded experts and he has made the move south to try to improve his chances of picking up more mounts. He will also learn about training during his time at the yard, so let's wish him the best of luck with it all - he certainly deserves it.

Can you believe that Australia managed to bat for a whole day?! The tourists reached 287-3 so a draw is looking increasingly likely, especially given the poor weather forecast, I'm sure the Aussies would take a draw...I love rubbing their noses in it!

Former world number one Tiger Woods shot his lowest round for three years yesterday when carding a round of 64 in the Wyndham Championship as he seeks a place in the Fedex Cup playoffs. It will be interesting to see if he can shoot four good rounds...I suspect not.

Southampton drew 1-1 with Danish side FC Midjylland last night in their Europa League match. They needed a penalty to earn the draw and it looks like it is going to be a difficult return leg in Denmark to qualify.
