The stable enjoyed a nice winner yesterday at Stratford as Low Key (pictured above) won the maiden hurdle by a facile nineteen lengths. He didn't jump as well as he can do and was slow at a few of his hurdles so there is room for further improvement from him, especially when his jumping sharpens up. Our other jumpers also performed creditably with Spending Time a close third on the same card - he looks a nice chasing type to me, while Vayland was second, beaten only a length under Daryl Jacob at Sedgefield and he looks like a winner waiting to happen.
There is a busy day of action ahead with no fewer than six meetings taking place. The action comes from Newmarket, Thirsk, Ffos Las, Hamilton, Goodwood and Newcastle on the level...yes, you heard correctly six meetings and not a single National Hunt card! Race planning gets better and better, no wonder the BHA are planning a consultation to make the entire process more effective!
Can you believe that they have had so much rain in Devon that Newton Abbot have had to abandon their chase races and make their next meeting an all hurdle card (plus a bumper). To be honest I am amazed the card is going on at all as I thought it would have been flooded! The heavy ground at Ffos Las today means there are only 33 runners on show for their seven race card. Ffos Las is a testing track at the best of times - there are going to be some very tired horses competing there today.
I had another good day yesterday with four of my five selections winning. I must remember to keep my lucky pin sharp!

I see that Jermain Defoe wants an England recall. If we need Defoe back in the England team, we are clearly not going to win anything. Having said that we do need a top class striker as Wayne Rooney would appear to have exceeded his sell-by date. Talking of English football, I see that Chelsea are the shortest price of our teams remaining in the Champions League. They are 8/1 shots, while Manchester City are 12/1, Manchester United are 16/1 and Arsenal 18/1...I thought that we were supposed to have the best league in the world?!

Finally, some more essential bedtime reading from my booklist: "Crossing Roads Safely" by Luke Bothways and "Rice Growing" by Paddy Field. Where do I get 'em?!
